Destiny 2 on PC is pretty fun and free, the only game in recent years to interrupt my dota IV.

nope. Do I need to have played original RDR to get what's going on?

It's a prequel so there's only a couple of little nods to "future" events.

Also I love the timing of this, I was just getting the itch to play through RDR2 again but I'll hold off for a month and do it with better framerate and graphics.

Nope it could probably even be beneficial going in blind and playing RDR as a sequel at some point.

A mod group has already announced it will be making a framework for RDR 2 on PC. So if your into Custom servers and Roleplaying, it will be great.

What do you guys reckon?
Buy direct from Rockstarr app or wait a month and get on Steam?
Basically everything I've bought is on Steam.
But torn on what I should do.

If you want it on Steam @rrrocket just buy it there. If it helps though, Steam will launch R*s new launcher before you can actually play the game.

I too need to ‘get over’ my need to have all the things on Steam. It’s seriously expensive... (R* are doing some promos to kick off their new launcher)

@IVY_Mike I'm happy to purchase on Rockstar store.
Like you I need to 'get over' my need to have all games on Steam too.

Since on Steam it launches the Rockstar launcher when launching the game may as well just buy on Rockstar.

Will mods work as per normal if not on steam?

I imagine they will; though you won't get any 'subscribe to workshop content' convenience... that being said, depending on the mod, usually someone is porting it into steam so not necessarily the latest version.

Given R*s 'persistent MP' in GTA V (and I presume RDR2 has a similar mode; I've not even considered looking at it) I imagine modding the game proves messy enough regardless of which way you go about it.

It's been ages since I paid attention to GTAV, but there was a crackdown on mods by Rockstar some years back that caused a lot of problems. Some were using the same sort of scripts that were used for cheating in GTA Online. I don't know if Rockstar continued working on that and found a way to differentiate between SP and MP mods.

I got a new laptop as I had to do a stint of work overseas & wanted to be able to play Dota on it. It's not super specced but OK for Dota. Will RDR be playable on this (at 4K, ideally, I have a 4K screen) or will it struggle?

It will struggle at 4k with those specs that's for sure. The system requirements hopefully mean that it'll be a well optimised port so you should still get good performance at 1080p.

thanks; I'll prolly give it a crack at 4k just to see what it looks like but I guess I'll be happy playing at 1080p.

Not sure when I'm gonna have a chance to play it, might end up back at my desktop before I even have a chance (which is even sadder spec'ed than my laptop!! might be time for a desktop upgrade.)

Horribly optimised for PC and runs like s*** at present.
gtx1070 ryzen 3700x and I don't get 30fps on high at 1080p.

Lot's of people with higher end systems also reporting it runs like dogs***.

Pretty disappointing.

Runs great with all graphics settings maximized for me though I'm only playing at 1200p and 60fps on a PC that should be able to crush 4k@60 or 1440p@144 in most games. One minor issue with the pause menu not rendering properly is the worst problem I've had, which is nothing compares to the vast majority of new releases I've played lately.

Touch wood my only issue was the crash on startup, which was fixed by temporarily disabling virus protection (it's nearly 2020, how is this still an issue)

So far ever since that fixed I've had no issue & it runs well and have to say looks rather amazing, so much detail.

My crashes seem to have been sorted by the recent updates.
There's also some good articles getting around like this one detailing which graphics settings to tweak for best quality to performance ratio.

Hopefully rockstar continue to make improvements because overall the game offers such an incredible experience that you really want to milk every drop out of.

Turned off my GPU overclock last night and got a solid 4-5 hours of play. Went to Strawberry and the game will CTD after a few minutes of play everytime. Have tried most of the tricks. Haven't tried disabling anti-virus and running the program in admin mode because I can't help but feel I'm walking into some sort of trap by doing so.

It's a real shame because I was really getting into it. Loved it on the xbox but the solid 60fps and increased graphical fidelity was blowing my f***ing mind.

Will wait for updates to roll out.

I think I'll wait for the Steam release in December.
Give them a month or so to sort stuff out.

With zero plans this weekend the temptation to pick it up now is real though ;)

Ive only had 1 crash and that was before a patch, I pressed ESC during a cut scene. Other than that, It works alright except I get hard lag sometimes where the sound will keep going but the visuals will stop for maybe 1-4 seconds and then keep on going as normal. Happened mostly in Valentine.

Some screens I took.

Wow, it looks amazing in those screenshots BladeRunner.

I haven't played the sequel, but I got about half way through I figure in RDR on the Xbox 360. I had just done the water crossing over to the other land (Mexico?) while getting shot at on the raft. Such a good game, I should pick it up again and get my hands on this one some time too.

I wish the Xbox360 or PS3 Emulators were working better for original RDR, So I could play it on my PC. I managed to only get about 30 seconds into the new game cut scene before it failed. I found my old 360 but It's missing the HDD and HDD cage thing. Also sold my copy of RDR and undead nightmare years ago. Wish I had an xbox one so I could just buy RDR for 360 and play it on there with that backwards compatibility thing.

A few more screens

I was farting around hunting poor defenceless animals when I noticed some sort of weird s*** going on. Some stage coaches crashed and bugged out and then caught fire.

Patch coming out today apparently. Very eager to see if it unf***s the game. It works fine out in the wilderness for me but almost instantly crashes when in town or camp. Makes dropping off mats a race against time before the game crashes.

Have you tried switching from either vulkan to dx12 or vice versa?
people are reporting better stability on one or the other but it differs depending on individual components it seems.

I'm still getting them mebbe every 5 hours or so but it seems to be completely random whether im in a mission or hunting or touching my dick so who knows.

Vulkan is more stable but runs like total dogs*** and is glitchy as f***. About to test out the new patch now.

New patch is out. If you're running Nvidia make sure you also grab the hotfix.
