Topic: Xbox Live Gold One Month Subscription For $1

Walking past my brother playing Xbox 360 today, I noticed Microsoft are offering a AU$1 one month Gold Subscription fee, in an effort to engage Silver members (my brother mooches my Gold membership, so he's Silver). Still, it's a pretty good deal for anyone who hasn't checked out what Xbox Live Gold offers.

The deal gives you a Gold sub for one month, after which you'll be charged the usual monthly rate of $10.95. For a full price listing for the service, you can hit this link.

It's also worth noting, for anyone on the fence about picking up either a 360 or PS3, Sony's online service is completely subscription free.

I can't actually bring myself to pay for the xbox 360 gold membership. I don't play it online enough to warrant the cost.

I've found online gaming on Xbox Live (via a Gold membership) to be a bit more stable than with my PS3

I used to have a gold subscription. But mostly use my 360 as a media centre now...so I can't be bothered paying to use what I barely use anymore.

After buying a PS3 and playing Killzone 2 online, I can't justify paying for Live. For the small number of times that I'll actually play a game online on my Xbox, it's just not worth it. I've got 2 one-month subscription cards that I got for free, and I'll use when I feel the need to play online (which is rare). But when they're used, I wont be buying any more unless something truly awesome comes along which required Live Gold.

It's $65 for 13 months people, which works out 5 measly bux a month.

I'll glady pay that for a better service. I spend more on crossing the toll bridge everyday.

Since I play a lot of Street Fighter 4, especially online, I know i'm getting more than my money's worth in doing so.

That's not to mention GoW, RE, COD, Burnount, FIFA etc..

It's $50+ a month for ps3/pc actually. You've still got your ISP costs, unless you're stealing the neighbours wireless.

whoop that's stupid logic, since you've still got to pay your internet anyway.

for 360 you're paying even MORE.

I'm aware of that. How is it stupid logic? It's like saying oh hey my parents gave me a car so I have a free car, the car isn't free you've still got to pay fuel & rego to be able to use it. Just because you don't pay a subscription fee to play on PC it's technically not totally free, you've got the cost of power to power the PC and the price of your ISP.

Take into account different ISP charge rates and you might pay $80 a month on one ISP and only $70 on another. If you do only pay $5 a month for xbox live, it works out cheaper to game on the console for the person on the cheaper ISP as they're only paying a total of $75 a month instead of $80.

Your stupid.

when you compare the microsoft service to the nintendo service, $5/month is worth it.

Haha, awesome first post.

I'd be inclined to agree if it weren't for PC and PS3 online gaming being free as well.

Free is obviously a "better price", but what i'm saying is that xbox live is more stable then PSN and by that alone i'll be happy to pay said 5 bux a month.

Yeah sure PC is free and Microsoft therefore should charge nothing for online play but sif play SF4 on PC when i can play it on my full high def LCD with 7.1 surround sitting back a couple of meters on a comfy couch with a fight stick in my lap.

$5 - take it.

More stable how? Xbox Live is by no means problem free, but it hasn't really been any better or worse than PSN (in my experience).

And the Xbox 360 doesn't support 7.1 surround anyway. ;)

Yeah well, besides, i only actually have 5 speakers and a sub but my pioneer receiver is capable of 7.1.

But hey, we're getting into unnecessary technicality here :p

That cool ara it's not like they are going to publicise that they made it harder for you to cancel the gold subscription, was just saying my experience after trying to find out how to cancel last year.
