The official Left 4 Dead blog has been updated with some news of Survival Mode, which is due to be released next week:

Survival Mode pits your team against never ending waves of infected. Sounds simple. Just trap the survivors in a small part of a map, unleash the hordes, and record the longest time. Survival Mode, which will be released next week, is actually a bit more than that.

Our goals for Survival Mode are to deliver a mode of play distinct from Campaign or Versus, have games that regularly last under ten minutes, and emphasize competition with team play through leaderboards.

The article goes into some detail about how Survival Mode works and how the various waves of zombies will be thrown at you.

That was a fairly interesting read. Can't wait to give it a bash when it's released.

I see no mention of death toll and dead air? are we still getting both of those updated for campaign play with this update?

I'm particularly excited about this, for me personally the absolute standout for gameplay in Left 4 Dead is the final level of each campaign where you just have to bunker down and overcome the insane outnumbering.
