AusGamers has just been sent word the eGames Expo will be hitting Melbourne once again this November alongside the Digital Lifestyle Show. This will all be part of the International Digital Entertainment Festival or iDEF. "According to a report by consumer analysts GFK, Australian consumers spent over $5 billion on digital devices in 2007, with sales expecting to top over $6 billion in 2008. The fact that over $1.3 billion was generated in the games industry alone last year, means that the digital entertainment industry is continuing to boom... in a big way," commented Peter Barlow, Festival Founder and Director.Hopefully this year's event will be a bit more up-to-date (last year some 'previews' were still running from E3 software), but it's awesome to know Australia is beginning to take gaming seriously. The event will run at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from November 14 to 16. |

With comments like that who knows eventually they will realize we deserve a R18+ rating on games seeing as we take it so seriously back to the topic though ... Good to see us getting a convention...might have to go check this out |

Eh? "Good to see us getting a convention"!??
This is just AGDC, which had been running since 2000, rehashed with a different name after a one-year trip to a different venue (Fed Square last year). |

The AGDC's were good when Shafted was running alongside them. Last years egame expo was pretty lackluster and probably in part due to competing with game1 a couple weeks before it. Looks like the game1.com.au is dead so maybe it's no longer being run. If that's the case, hopefully this years egame expo will be a little better this time around.
edit: ok, game1 site seems to load for me now for some reason, but still not updated for anything being run this year. last edited by Nailbomb at 12:33:50 25/Aug/08 |

Raven, actually eGames was on at the Exhibition Centre last year also - we went :) (or maybe it was early this year, I can't remember, but I do know this is the second one) |

Actually it was on at the Exhibition Centre in 2006 as well as I was running a LAN at game1 a couple weeks before it was on.

Yeah, this isn't the AGDC replacement, the AGDC replacement is GCAP. This is just an expo for the public.

Wait, this is for the public? Well then, that makes it *nothing* like E3. For E3 you need to part of an elite in-group, be in the industry, and be born between 7:32am and 3:11pm on any Thursday, Sunday or Monday.
Yeah, this isn't the AGDC replacement, the AGDC replacement is GCAP. This is just an expo for the public. Haha, I read that as "the AGDC replacement is CRAP." |

Went to it last year, didnt really see much new stuff... actually much of it was older games. Think they were showing Crysis mainly, yet Crysis was already out and finished by most! They also showed Fury.... which had a mostly empty stand. Yapa |

Yeah maybe they can get Micheal Atkinson down from South Australia and he can put the OFLC ban hammer on some more games. Maybe he could try to tone them down. No R18+ rating yet unfortunately. Oh but wait what am I saying Micheal Atkinson might be offended. "But only teenagers play... and it makes them violent..." and with that note he probably wouldn't even turn up at all. Oh well so much for Fallout 3. |

I've gone for the past 2 years, and it seems to keep improving so thats a Plus. I think this year they'll be having Gamerthon part of eGames. Gamerthon = Big Lan tourney's for Different games ranging from CS, Halo3, DoA and a few others I think. I personally hope they have Halo3 there. Maybe I'll see some of you guys there. |
