EA have announced Will Wright's hotly anticipated creature/life/God sim has finally gone Gold and will be ready to ship fr its September 4 release date.
“We are so excited to finally get Spore into the hands of fans and players,” said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore at Maxis. “The Maxis studio has had an absolute blast creating Spore, but the fun is just beginning. The most engaging stories are truly the ones people create themselves, and we can’t wait to see how players not only craft and explore the Spore universe, but hear what stories they have to tell as a result.”
Spore is EA's attempt at toppling their own massively popular series, The Sims, with an accessible, intuitive title that puts you in charge of creating life, from the beginning. For more check out our Spore game page.

creature creator seemed not as good as i thought it should be. not as much customisation... maybe i just missed a few features. but like someone above said, it has the gimmicks, does it have the gameplay? we'll see.

Me too. Nice Galactic Edition bundle imo. Installing now.. Can't wait!

I spent $2000 on a new monitor and another $2000 on a new system just to display this in all it's glory!

Seems only EB got their copies today, I went to JB Hi-fi on my way home from work, and none of the ones around the city had their stock yet, they're expecting to get it tomorrow around lunchtime :(

So whats the deal people who picked it up today, are you able to install it and play it fine? Or is there some kind of online auth thing that isn't switched on yet that stops you?

So far I'm on the fence.

The first stage (cell) is pretty amusing, it's very short and quite fun.
The second stage (Can't remember the name) is f***ing s***. It's so stupidly kiddie, has no depth and is boring as hell.
The third stage (Tribal) I've only just started, it's becoming more RTS styled now, you control various units etc etc.

So yeah, I'm not sure about it - but I think from the Tribal stage upwards the game is supposed to become cooler. I hope it does, because so far it's pretty meh.

I preferred the cell stage, the second stage wasn't so bad. James has gone a lot further and it doesn't look as amusing to me anymore now that it's about building cities and buildings, cars etc. Preferred the cute animal stage.

I'm with Tibbets. I have been hugely anticipating Spore and I am sitting on the fence also. I have entered the Civ stage this afternoon & while the game is challenging from tribal onwards so far, I still feel it lacks a little depth. It is great fun though, just seems to be missing something.

May aswell utilize this thread and share content as we go though

From the stuff that I have read about it, I gathered it was a game for casual type players. There isn't enough complex gaming mechanics involved to keep the more hardcore crowd amused. It is simply too easy for a hardcore player to grasp the concepts and 'win'.

Creature stage was cute.

The tribal stage had clumsy controls and exceedingly basic gameplay. It was short so that kinda makes up for it.

Just got into the civ stage, creating the vehicles and buildings is pretty fun.
