id Software issued this press release announcing that April 4th is the due date for both the Xbox version of Doom 3 (and all its co-op goodness) and the PC expansion, Resurrection of Evil: Resurrection of Evil picks up two years following the events of the original in a once forgotten and remote UAC research facility on Mars. Players wage a brutal war against an army of new demons and zombies including Hell’s own Hunters, while utilizing incredible new weapons like the physics defying "grabber" and the return of the classic double-barreled shotgun. Featuring new locations, puzzles and mysterious powers like the ability to slow time, Resurrection of Evil will have players reloading for the bloodiest battle yet.Heh, the grabber. The press release doesn't make any mention of multiplayer; as much as I'd enjoy a good Threewave CTF or something I'd rather see it released as a mod, not included in an expansion. |

Heh, the grabber. The press release doesn't make any mention of multiplayer; as much as I'd enjoy a good Threewave CTF or something I'd rather see it released as a mod, not included in an expansion. As much as I would love to share your optimism, I would hate to play CTF in the dark with recycled HL2 weapons. last edited by casa at 12:30:03 10/Feb/05 |

cant wait to play this on the xbox then I remember how a console is "joe public" who doesn't mod his XBOX and doesn't know WHERE to get his xbox fixed.you send the xbox back to microsoft if it hasnt been modded, who doesnt know to send something back to the suplier, the retailer will certianly tell them. also the vidcard is a mix between the gf3 and 4 not 2. they worked very bloody hard making the game run inside the 64mb ram limit. everythings been recoded to shrink the size. shame fps on the xbox are arse anyway.wtf are you on? PS2 is the s***heap for fps |

Considering that Valve sapped what patience some ppl had in the over-hype of the slight dissapointment that was "Half-Life-Screw-U-With-A Over-Hyped-Mod 2",I think the Doom3 game held up pretty well against it(Actually,I think it shames all over it.doom3 obviously appeals to the very intelligent only. doom3 scared with it's cheap and overused tricks, whereas hl2 scared with it's excellent monsters and level design that just oozed atmosphere. last edited by fpot at 21:45:21 15/Feb/05 |

What are you trying to say fpot? That you weren't scared when you opened the 500th door that looked like every other door and had an imp jump out at you? You weren't terrified every time something spawned in behind you and "suprised" you?
Obviously you just weren't playing it right. |

You're right, everyone who didn't like doom wasn't playing it right, it is all their fault for not playing it right. HAIL ID!

(didnt you just love the postingss all over the net where ppl that were really mesmerised and "chickened" by Doom3, try to expresss a bullet-proof personna..LOL!!) If it makes you feel better, yes. We were all secretly as scared as you. And what appeared as total boredom on my behalf was actually terror. Especially over the Satanic symbols. On a less sarcastic note, does anyone feel that most computer game and movie makers don't really know how to try to scare people beyond the usual cliches? Movies like The Haunting and Resident Evil seemed so predictable and just made me roll my eyes. But The Mothman Prophecies scared the crap out of me, and The Butterfly Effect actually gave me nightmares. So I'm either an anomoly when it comes to getting scared, or most creators of this genre are missing the subtle nuances required to actually scare people. There's definately something Id Software doesn't seem to have grasped: Repetition kills tension. |

I agree with you about how a lot of movies/games these days which are meant to be scary, are just lame and predictible. But then I have to call you a big girly man because Mothman Prophecies and Butterfly Effect weren't particularly scary movies in my opinion :P
But then I guess its a big subjective. The Ring scared the absolute s*** out of me, but it didn't do anything at all for some people. Same with Event Horizon (though The Ring probably more so, for me anyway). As for scary games, Silent Hill 2 tops my list. Silent Hill 3 was still pretty good, and still scarier than most other games I've played, but Silent Hill 2 had the perfect atmosphere and everything going for it. It had the creepy, deserted town vibe happening, and the fog was used awesomely. Like you'd hear noises up ahead in the fog, but not know what or where they're coming from. Or you'd see some bizarre half glimpsed shape in the fog and then there'd be nothing there. I'd have to say the atmosphere in that game is the best I've ever seen. It really f***ed with your mind, and it used music, sounds and disturbing imagery to really, really good effect. |
