Counter-Strike 1.5 and a Half-life 1.1.1.0 patches are in their final stages and are expected to be released sometime in the next few weeks. Heres what Valve had to say: Both updates (Half-Life 1.1.1.0 and C.S. 1.5) include the Ricochet Mod, phase two of the recently introduced anti-cheat technology, as well as various fixes and tweaks. The Ricochet Mod source, which includes animation blending and multi-serve technology, will be added to the Half-Life SDK. In addition, Counter-Strike 1.5 includes de_piranesi, a new mission created by Iikka Keranen. |

OH great, I have to not only download HL, TFC, and DMC, but also Ricochet, just to play CS and DoD... f***sticks.
This has to be a conpiracy with ISP's all over the world just so they get to charge more for the bandwidth. |

cs 1.4 was sposed to be 1.5
but the release of condition zero was pushed back so they never realeased the full thing 1.5 just enhances the graphics a bit and adds new weapons n stuff like customisable models, molotov cocktails and a LAW, etc it looks pretty sweet |

Unit I guarantee that when Doom 3 is released someone will make a CS like game on that engine. So dont worry it will happen.
Wonder why they bothered releasing 1.4 if they where going to release 1.5 a little while later? Its not like there was any big differences apart from the GUI and the jumping. However the new changes sound good, and it will be worth a look at. |

Hmm... I have a theory about why they released 1.4...
Every time they release a new version, its a celebration, so they have a large party with heaps of caviar and wine and stuff.... now... the team leader slept with his secretary the day 1.4 was due to be released.. anyways, he was feeling pretty bad about it, because he would have to go home and face his wife, SO.. he decided to release 1.4, chuck a big party, and drown his sorrow in a bottle of good white wine. Thats my theory. |

"Animation blending" refers to interpolating frames that aren't in models (I'm assuming)
Say you have a model, one frame its head looking forward, and then next frame (50 msec later) its 10deg to the right. IF you're frame rate is greater than 20 fps (50msec in 1sec / 20) than blending the animation would fill in incremental changes during those frames instead of being one position for a few frames and snapping to the next. Valve havent elaborated as to what they mean by 'multi-serve' technology as of yet. We're hoping it means optimisations for running more than one CS server per computer. |

CS will die out eventually, but that may be five or ten years away. Basically, it'll take until a much better game with similar gameplay is released and the people who want to play it (all several million of them) have the hardware to cope.
I reckon CS 1.5 is being released so soon because they were beta testing stuff in 1.4 and 1.5 is the "real" release that was planned. |

It is silly saying that a single player game will be the death of multiplayer one. Quake was designed (belived it or not) as a single player game. Which is why it was so good. Overbalancing made quake3 gay. |

Great I hate to put a dampner on things but I hate updates for any of the Shaft-Life games because it usually means more lag and lower frame rates! Also bigger d/l's so Valve can force their useless new features down our throats e.g the HLTV thingy ....God what a waste of time that was :/ |

"e.g the HLTV thingy "
1. dont play it. 2. HLTV was and still is an excellent idea. And its implementation and the amount of people who use it and enjoy it shows it. I couldnt go to the cpl qualifiers but managed to watch some of the games from home because of it. |

i think the reason why they brought out 1.4 and then 1.5, as well as the hl updates, out so soon after is so that they could impliment the final stages of the hl anti cheat? had to wait to see what cheats came out for it, how they worked and such thats what i heard ne ways.. |

Half Life TV is spectator server, that you use your hl client to connect to, and you can watch a game being played.
It's very clever the way it's done, it's like watching an intense movie. Because they have the camera change place to where the most interesting things are happening (it's on a delay too, so you actually go to the interesting part a few seconds before the interesting thing happens) |

Hurry up your production of Doom3 so CS can f***off and die. And if CS died, what game would all the cheating lamers move on to next? I think its better if people keep playing CS, it keeps a lot of cheats/noobs/just general retards away from other multiplayer games. |

u could put it that way or u could see it as that cs population is bigger so therefore the amount of lame and cheat involved is also higher oh and lets not forget the perfectly designed, totally bug free HL engine :P |

/me sighs This whole BS arguement again...joy! The only things I have seen about 1.5 is screenshots of supposed new HLTV features; http://csnation.counter-strike.net/images/content/image_4609.jpg The other one is here; Screenshot 2. And the new map, which...I guess...is designed for 1.4/1.5 jumping, but it's too big and it's a huge campers map which will just make CS on Pub Servers even more camp like, IMHO. |

I reckon this could all just be one big fking hoax, as people have said.
Even though if it is true it probably won't happen for another 6 months. |

i thought doom 3 was more aimed at the single player game rather than multi. So its not likely to take over from cs anyway
