San Francisco - April 25, 2002 - Ubi Soft Entertainment, one of the world’s leading videogame publishers, today announced a worldwide licensing deal with Viacom Consumer Products to publish games based on the upcoming motion picture release, The Sum Of All Fears. Paramount Pictures’ The Sum of All Fears, is the latest Tom Clancy novel to grace the big screen, this time starring Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan. Ubi Soft plans to launch the PC version of the game in conjunction with the movie release, in May for U.S. and Canadian audiences and in the fall for European fans. Ubi Soft will also release the game on the new generation of consoles in the months following the movie’s release.

The Sum Of All Fears games will be based on events from both Tom Clancy’s novel and Paramount Pictures’ movie, immersing players in the middle of a high-stakes adventure as members of an FBI elite hostage rescue team reassigned to track down the conspirators of a major plot against the United States. Players can choose to play as part of a three-player team or up to 36 players can join the multiplayer action on the ubi.com gaming portal as well as the internet. The game takes place in a number of modern day locations, including West Virginia, the Middle East, and South Africa, and allows players to follow the story of The Sum Of All Fears via rendered cinematics depicting vital plot points from the novel and movie.
Ubi Soft have released two hi-res screenshots of the game. For the full announcement head over to BluesNews.com

That role was played by Harrison Ford right? So is that movie set before all the others? Cause Harrison ford was like 50 when he played that role, and Ben Afflec is like 30.

If you read his books they jump all over the place.

I don't think it matters if Ford played Jake Ryan and now Affleck is now.

I just hope the game and movie are sweet. From the sounds of it they will be hits on the big screen and as a game.

WHAT? What books are you reading? Clancy's books are sequential - there is an order in which they're supposed to be read, though it isn't critical as each book can almost stand alone.

I thought this book was great, very thrilling and a great read, but I don't know how they're going to make it into an interesting movie without taking a lot of artistic license with it.

Ben Affleck is playing Jack Ryan? What the f***? That makes 3 - first Alec Baldin, then Harrison Ford (who was great), now Ben Affleck, who is (as has been pointed out) a hundred years younger.

Sum of All Fears for me was really interesting because it was really quite technical in terms of the nature of the attack. However in terms of stuff that actually happens - there isn't much. The game looks like another excuse for a Rainbow Six game - there's no way you could make an interesting game based solely on the events in the book.

I think the screenshots that were released suck and whoever was in charge of that decision needs a thwapping - one of them shows the guys hand sticking right through the gun, and is taken with anti-aliasing off so you can see all the jaggies in the background. You'd think, by now, that people making these decisions would know to make their initial screenshots be really impressive rather than just having things in it for people like me to nitpick s*** about.

I probably read a couple out of order then ....

Anyway, the game will be based on the novel and movie. I don't think the movie will be a direct representation of the book anyway.

Unless they think the average movie-goer is interested in the inner workings of thermonuclear warheads, then no, probably not.

The game looks like Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon with different skins.

Those bloody screenshots looks exactly like Ghost Recon to me, with just different skins. (I think guns are actually the same gun they have in GR) I'm beginning to lose much respect for Red Storm. They seem to be making the same game over and over again just with different title. I loved R6 then RS but GR was bit of a disappointment.

I reckon lol, I mean.. im interested in alot of action/shooting games, which are at least partially realistic. But I haven't been interested by any of the Rainbow 6 series, they all look the same to me and they got bodgy graphics, and blocky charachters.

I'm hanging out for the next book in the series...

The Bear & the Dragon was great - not so much guns, guns and more guns like Rainbow 6.

-> Incidently, the Olympic games in Sydney did have large water-mist dispensers. Dad & I avoided them like the plague, hoving both read the book :)
