Digit-Life have a round-up of 24x IDE CD-RW drives - I know there's a lot of people considering 24x drives at the moment, so make sure you check it out. Lots of graphs and timings and stuff. The article includes the following drives NEC NR-7900, ASUSTeK CRW-2410S, TEAC CD-W524E, Mutsumi CR-4809TE, Yamaha CRW3200E-VK - notably missing the Ricoh and SONY offerings, so may be worth reading in conjunction with TomsHardware's Eleven 20x/24x CD Burners from last month where he takes a similar look at a heap of burners.

Yummy...the Sony cdrw 24x 10x 40x IDE rawks too. $190 can't beat that for an IDE CDRW.

cd burner, thing that "writes cds" seemed to be that yamaha and plextor are kicking ass in cd burners, but they cost so bloody much, its like double the price. i mite go for lite on and they got the 32x12x40.

The Liteon 24x10x40 is ze best now. It and very few other burners can make a perfect copy of protected game cds. The plextor can do it too but with a double or even 3 times more expensive. I burned 200 cds so far and it hasn't failed 1 yet.

i paid 259 for my ricoh MP7200a which is in the toms hardware roundup

its the 20x ricoh one

dar

it absolutley rules

i burn at around 4:40 on Taiyo Yuden - That's Media cd's -> that all you should ever use, they are rated at 16x. but i burn at 20

and if you look at a cdspeed burn test from my burner, it somtimes peaks at around 21x

apparently they hacve 40X speed CD-RW in the works (burns a 700mb CD in two minutes) Plextor was the first to announce this if I am not mistaken

and Liteon are rebadged Plextors (or some other brand name starting with P)

u 've ever heard of BURNPROOF ? unless the cd has error itself otherwise NERO and CloneCD won't fail you any disk. And CLoneCD rocks.

myself i have a trusty plextor 12x10X32 scsi - im happy with it as it is...only i think 2-3 bugger ups ever (out of several hundred) and they were not hardware problems (eg. had a power failure once, a blue screen another time)

Then again, burning cds in half the time *could* be handy....specially at lans =)
