There are now just under 400 people registered for this weekends QGL! So I thought I'd just mention some things for all those people that aren't going, that live in other stats etc. All AGL Q3 games will be broadcast to the net on Saturday via QTV, so if your around on Saturday make sure you swing by and watch some of the action. Its a shame HLTV isnt available in time, if it was we would be broadcasting all CS games as well. This weekends lan will be fully switched 100 mb thanks to Cisco and full net access provided by Telstra. There will be three Electricians there on friday setting up our power requirments to ensure we dont have any problems. The lan will run from Saturday morning through to Sunday night, and you can stay that whole time, however if you wish to go home to sleep you must leave by 12 midnight on Saturday before security locks the gates. This is only the first round of AGL for Queensland, all dates for AGL in all states around Australia will be announced when the AGL site does live. |

I'm happy to wait until the site goes live for this to be answered if you wish, but I'd like to know whether it will be a CS players call as to whether or not their teams match gets broadcast to the net for all around the world to watch? |

Humm somthing I've been thinking about since reading some replies on my feature. We haven no real stand on this since other than 's*** yeah we will do it' we havent really thought about it. In general it will be shown, however if both teams playing object to it I guess thats somthing we would have to look at, who else feels like mp does? |

Why don't you want your CS matches broadcasted? Is there some special skillz/tecniques that you use that you don't want other clans to know about? I thought all tournement games got recorded anyways, to be reviewed if any claims of cheating arise... |

In my opinion, the 'cover up hour strats' type of mentality will simply slow the improvement in quality of clan wars in general. In many previous FPS games, players often improved their game by watching demos of other people playing the game. Moving away from computer games, almost every single competitive sport ever invented intrinsically allows you to watch what other players do during the game. Having seen a strategy, and being able to execute that strategy well and at the appropriate time are two incredibly different things. |

If you want to broadcast a match so that every clan at qgl knows every other clans tactics, then it comes down to who makes the shot first - player skill. I'm all for that, I'm sure SAS will love it too... |

You almost managed to make it sound like a bad thing that matches would be decided based on player skill? Isn't that the whole point? Like someone said previously (I couldn't be bothered scrolling up to find out who), knowing a tactic and seeing it in action, then actually taking it and implementing it yourself and executing it properly, are very different things. I watched Javelin throwing on tv, I know the mechanics behind it, I know what it involves, but does that mean I could grab a javelin and throw it 80 metres because I saw it on tv? |

The funny thing about games, is that the general player populace gets better if they can watch each other play... Realy good quake player watch demos from anyone better, to pick up ideas of play. To bitch and moan about your tactics being shown, the complete s***kunts still wont be able to master it, and the realy good teams probably do most of it anyway (that works bothways :D) |

Yes, and therefore we have issues with the whole "super-clan" saga all over again. We all know everyone will bitch. I mean, look at clans like SAS, they get owned by 12m on dust, 12m don't use strats, certainly not ones as complex as that of SAS. Imagine if 12m were to watch and steal SAS's strats, then implement them (which isn't hard to do) then it ends up being SAS's players vs 12m's players instead of SAS TEAM strategies that wins them the match. Get my point? |

So, you're saying there's SO FEW strategies in CS and that its SUCH A STUPID GAME, that as soon as one team knows another teams strategies, there's no point in playing? |

CS is a team game, its about completing objectives, thats why it shouldn't come down to individual skill. CS isn't just about individual skill, its about overall team skill, and team skill means use and implementation of stratagies, to be able to see your enemies stratagies from the enemies point of view means that in the future you can use those stratagies against them because because you will have every opportunity to see how each player reacts and file weakness's "chinks in there armour" so to speak. A big skill in CS is to be able to find these weaknesses in wars and figure out how to exploit it. having the war broadcast totally removes the skill involved in that, hence making a big factor that seperates the good from the mediocre/average. It also means that any stratagy run by a clan can only be run once ever before they have to come up with entirely new strats because they know that anyone looking at the broadcast will be able to beat that stratagy. |

thats why i died alot, i trust people i dont know in protecting me when giveing them cover the saying "you cover my back i cover yours" disappeared in q2dm/ctf days... today i haven't found a spotter as good as F2B or the guys from [tFh] which we were kicking so much arse, because we trusted each other. I play CS for the team work, I HATE playing solo, it feels like I'm against everyone, even my so-called team mates. Otherwise I'd be playing quake if that was my motive. |

This reminds me of the time when I was playing cs_assault with Zoix, and he, as a CT, climbed up the ladder near CT spawn and stood there with an AWP for about 100 rounds in a row - waaaaaait a minute, he does it every time I play cs_assault! |

I think it's sad that people play the same cs maps over and over and over again until it becomes mechanical. I have way more fun playing a new map, trying the strategies out for the first time. Because in reality, most Swat teams etc... only get one shot at it. Whereas in CS people keep playing the same damn maps that came with CS over and over until they know the map like the veins on their cock. This isn't good because then it comes down to who knows the highs and lows of that particular map. Sure skill does count. There is actually a way for mappers to dynamically change the layout of the map slightly each spawn, I do a bit of mapping, I think I'll look into that. This will at least force the team to stay awake and coordinate their attack each round without everyone just *knowing* what to do. |

Heh, Trog and co could be well within their rights to say something to the effect of "you are competing on our servers, in our competition and on our network therefore anything that you do in those servers is the property of Ausgamers and co." As for "strategies making or breaking a Cs game" hrmm the final last year was a fine spectecle of the brilliant tactics that teams use, i think the best thing to come out of that was people actually used the cameras in the map to shoot through walls....other than that it was tent pitching season.... |

I think you're completely wrong on the strategy stuff Deeper. I'm going to use a gay analogy to prove my point. When I used to play club basketball, my team had probably 5 different offensive sets. Each was simply known by a number 1,2,3,4, or 5 to my team mates; allowing us to make or change the offensive set at any time during play. We didn't make up the offensive sets though. They were just five we liked, and had practiced. The sets themselves were textbook basketball stuff - anyone knew anything about strategic basketball would know how those sets work and how to counter-act them. However, since the other team isn't sure which set you're running, they can only run a generic defence and hope to stop the play - rarely will the defence set up to stop a particular offence style, because if they set up against the wrong style (or the point guard notices and changes the offensive play) then they'll get run over the top of. I agree with typodemon, "hiding" your gameplay simply lessens the quality of Counter-strike wars. Going back to basketball, long ago it evolved to a point where no one particular strategy could win you the game. The players ability to intrepret the gameflow, choose (or change to) a correct strategy and then execute it flawlessly is what makes the game. I await the day the same thing can be said about CS. |

I accept Boxhead's statement, I knew that point would be raised soon enough and sure, if we're forced to, I'll accept it. I just think it's fair that if clan leaders don't mutually agree for the match to be broadcast, then it shouldn't happen. I see what you're trying to say here Nats, I've also taken into consideration what yourself and others have said earlier about about how say the NFL is broadcast to millions worldwide. In my opinion, this is the difference: in the NFL (or any sporting match), the camera can only catch so much. In HLTV, the spectator is allowed to view the entire match from BIRDS EYE view, thus allowing spectators to see almost every tangible aspect of the game - from player positions, to grenade positions etc, not to mention the fact that in HLTV you can spectate both birds eye and third person at the same time. I wouldn't mind people watching if the broadcast only allowed players to see from the third person - ala what's already implemented. Anyway...next? |

I would like to point out that in the NFL, players/coaches on the opposing team are (as far as my memory recollects) allowed almost full, unrestricted access to all tapes from all camera angles from all games of their opposing teams, allowing them to fully study and analyse their tactics. |
