well koopzey i actually thought about doing that and i probabily will do that - but an adaptor is a no fuss solution. I just opened up the adaptor that i currently have with a soldiering iron (i forgot to open a window so im dizzy) and it seems to be a straight thru connector so i dont know why the computers think there is an error.. and its obiously the adapror. Weird!

Its this. Rj12.. doesn't 100 base need rj45? this may be the problem! |

Im not quite sure how you managed to fit an RJ45 plug into an RJ12 socket, but thats most probably where your problem is.

probabily because you can use rj12 connectors wich is what i brought from dicks to terminate. before you go saying that you cant network with rj 12, i put a hub where the connector was and i got a perfect connection. Whats the diff anyway?

RJ12 is 6p6c
RJ45 is 8p8c I dont think the contacts in an RJ12 socket line up with the contacts on an RJ45 socket. |

doh - there's a lot to be said for constant refreshing
:P if you do decide to solder the lines up, post back and let us know how she performs in terms of ping and/or packet loss? I've not manually joined this stuff before, and would really like to know how she goes |

haha.. the problem isnt the connector, if you put a hub there and it worked then you arent using a crossover cable, hence your problem. i suggest you replace the connector with a cross over connector..
edit: this is what you need (i think) http://www.twstore.com/twstore/c5xover.html |

Grow up typo. your comments are wasting my time.
----- i know what your saying about crossover. But the line eventually goes into a 100mbs switch so i dont need c-over :) its weid cus im using rj12 with around 12 cables and in my switch i have never had any probs. ill soldier them then it only uses liek the outside two wires anyway doesn't it? |

or 1, 2, 3, and 6 instead.
4 and 5 are generally used to dual wire the port to telephone and 7 and 8 aer generally used for fax line or alternative connection |

heh
cat5 is handy stuff, i used a 15 metre dodgy network cable to make a tv-out/audio cable to connect my pc to the loungeroom outside. works perfect. not long enough to run through the walls though, need at least 30m for that :/ |

Im gona get my house wired with cat5. If 100 base only uses a few wires, then i can use the remaining for Tv, and stero. A few houses that are being built around me are full of the stuff. I use cat5 offcuts as alluse wire.. great stuff |

Just thought id post to screw lokis plans for forum domination. :P :( Well it wasn't my original intention, just that this was the only one stopping my completed row :) so I figured *meh* go back to ocau.. Crucify me if you so wish! Most of my posts on this forum, generally have, always been alot more contributing and relavant than your posts. |

ahah yeah sure loki lets start this crap again... No you did buddy. you have contributed alot to the forum so much that you by your own admissions left and went to another one.. I post on OCAU more cause it has alot more people and replies come in quicker, there's more opinions to read, and newer threads pop up more often (which is the main reason why I read it more often) atleast I've always been here offering my opinion (informed or otherwise) on a wide range of topics and issues doing my bit to keep this thing going... I'm still here, just because you were here from the start, does not make you some sort of demi-god or better than anyone else... Nor do I claim to be the greatest, but my general opinion is your posts generally consits of defamatory, negative, "flame", or put-down content. Do you feel the need to put others down before you and leave a wake behind you in an attempt to boost your own self-confidence? Common, deny it... its in human nature to sub-consciously do it, its a way of boosting one's self-confidence... I do it sometimes, you do it (alot :P), everyone does it. Maybe I'm jus tmore mature to at least admit it... Bring on the matches and kerosine! |

I have put down people, i will admit that, I have put them down because they are stupid f***s, stupid people need to be told that they are being stupid for their own good.. Hi loki.. remember the urban exploration? yeah I thought that was really stupid, so i put you down.... I think i've well and truely lit the fire and settled back to enjoy the warmth... I can admit that and with that this thread can be deleted or locked or something because I have ruined it.. Sorry trog and co... and splat, hope you get the connection going properly.. |

hi, also f*** you... ...Hi buddy I have put down people, i will admit that, I have put them down because they are stupid f***s, stupid people need to be told that they are being stupid for their own good.. In your mind... sure, but what constitues "stupid f***s" to the general population, maybe take your forums way too seriously? or anything in general? I hardly drove a car through a red-light at 140kph+ while stoned, or throw a brick over a highway overpass. Hi loki.. ... Hi! remember the urban exploration? Sure do, I still go out and do it. yeah I thought that was really stupid, so i put you down.... Yes... you thought... alot of other's thought it was fun. I think i've well and truely lit the fire and settled back to enjoy the warmth... You sure have buddy, notice how I'm calm and relaxed while you rant on? I can admit that Nice that you finally admit to it buddy. and with that this thread can be deleted or locked or something because I have ruined it.. Sorry trog and co... I'll start another just for this to make yourself a bigger fool? and splat, hope you get the connection going properly.. Yes, terribly sorry splat... continue OT. |

Loki, i'm not up with this internet argument stuff, is this where you win? because thats what you're after right?
its in human nature to sub-consciously do it, its a way of boosting one's self-confidence...You want to *beat* me, k I can live with that, you need your moment in the sun, I however don't need that, its not part of my nature to boost my self confidence by putting others down, infact I'm quite the opposite, all i've kept doing is pointing out stupidity in ones ways... If you can't see that then I must be too subtle in my approach, i'll point out the bleeding obivious next time |

You want to *beat* me, No, not really, I just want you to realise that you said/starting something when it didn't need to be, its not a life-death forum nor is it a very serious one... most people on here I have found to be top-notch people, and I'm sure most of em wouldn't mind what I did (wow one post in this thread as a joke). You made the problem bigger than it needed to be. k I can live with that, you need your moment in the sun Not really, I go for more the approval and praise from others, I however don't need the spotlight or center of attention... And in return I generally give as much as I can, and try to take care of others before myself. (If you want to stoop to a lower-level, you can go ahead and twist that around on me... this is how I am, I, and everyone else accept it... everyone is different) I however don't need that, its not part of my nature to boost my self confidence by putting others down, As I said, its in human nature, one needs something to guage themselves against, its somewhat "instinct"? infact I'm quite the opposite, all i've kept doing is pointing out stupidity in ones ways... In not so polite ways? I'm not trying to say you're a bad person in the slightest despite what you -might- think I am doing (I emphasise might because I do not know for sure what you could be thinking I'm trying to do [get your head aroudn that one.. hehehe <-- not directed at anyone]...) If you can't see that then I must be too subtle in my approach, i'll point out the bleeding obivious next time *shrugs*... as I stated above, I'm not pickin on anyone's personality... accept for what they are... I accept that your just gonna keep doin the same old-same old through each thread... Eesh, its so insignificant to the big scheme of life that I just don't care about this, I'm hardly "fired up", I'm quite very calm and I have attempted to not make this dematory or abusive in the slightest... Nothing anybody has done here is a problem in my books, I dont see why it should be in anyone elses... |

You know, boxhead, I'm willing to bet $100 your a damn fine person if I actually knew you better...
Perhaps you might think the same of myself (I only know a select few people on a more 'real-time' basis from these forums).. Their opinion would be better suited for that. I'm hardly going to judge someone from their posts on a forum which don't really relate to people and their lives (and interact with their life)... its mere opinions on such certain posted topics |
