Well, after only days of the AMD 2600+ being reviewed, the Intel 2.66Ghz and 2.8Ghz has been released and benchmarked along side the Althon XP 2600+. As follows:

Benchmarks @ Tomshardware (Note: RDRAM Tested)
Benchmarks @ HardOCP (Note: No RDRAM Tested)
Benchmarks @ X-Bit Labs (Note: No RDRAM Tested)
Benchmarks @ The Tech Report (Note: RDRAM Tested)

Also something to note that the Intel P4's in both forms are available in Australia already. Also, there is no indication when the AMD 2600+ will be released in Australia.

thanks for pointing out the rdram issue. They should really test both.

the 2.53GHz P4 has been reduced to its new price of ~$500 at some places already in Australia, and the 2.66 and 2.8 will be introduced very soon at a higher price obviously.

And the recently reviewed 2600+ *still* isn't available, and won't be until the mid/late september by the looks.

do ya get the feeling they're trying to slow that thing down somehow?

damn....HDD and CD on the one channel?!? dodgy.

Didn't notice that when I went through before. Also, the reviewer sounds like a bit of an AMD die-hard don't you think? I thought his conclusion about the 2600+ being the best price/performance chip was a bit of a laugh, considering the 2600+ hasn't even been released...

I think they should test the p4's with DDR ram, but not include it in their "head to head" benchmarks. this way, people looking at buying a DDR system can get results, but it won't effect the "amd vs intel" debate. the reason i say this, is because the idea is to see which chip can get fastest system. because intel were smart enough to make RDram support, they get that advantage. if someone whinges to me "yours is only faster cuz u have RDram" (which i DO) i just say to them, "yes, and it IS FASTER"

incidentally, with DDR systems these news chips don't hit the ceiling at 150FSB, as they do on many RDRAM boards. 3.5GHz on air is quite achieveable with the 2.8GHz cpu according to the hardcore overclockers :)

Is that archaic Pentium IV architecture still getting around? Jeez it's like a horse with a broken leg, put it out of its misery! oh yeah AMD rules!

Hehe, way to show you have no clue :O

$600 - not intel. Athlon 1800+, KX7-333, Volcano 7+. Easily done under $600. Move up to the 2000+ if you like.

Is that a compliment or an insult, not that I could care less?.......

From saying that I think the guy who replied said that you didn;t know your s*** .... which I tend to agree with him.....

Even if you just _glanced_ at the benchmarks you'll see that the P4 totally kicks the Athlon to dust.

Add to the fact that if you read the artilces the Athlons have only alittle more room for any scaleability compared to the P4.

Also add to the fact that the Athlon is _still_ not out (in Australia, I think it might be trickling out in the US by this time) while all P4 annouced are out in full swing.

Add to the fact that intel will be slashing proces on the P4's as of September.

Also, don;t get me wrong, I actually have _a_ Athlon XP. It;s just AMD better get off there butts and release that Hammer or it just might get smashed into the dust like we have already seen.......

What I would like to see is cooler chips are opposed to faster ones at this stage, fix the heat issues that are effecting both AMD and now Intel. Then start rolling out more Mhz. IMHO via have doen some nice work with the c3's if only they had more grunt behind them. Then they would have me sold.

umm..what heat issue affecting intels? my P4 2.26 is overclocked to 2.8GHz and it never gets higher than 50C with the stock cooler and just an exhaust and intake fan in the case.

pfft, buy a P4 2500 /w 100mhz fsb.

Jump into bios, put fsb to 133....

and

3350 @ Def Vcore.

Cheaper, Faster, Better.
