For those of you that are hanging out for the full version of Battlefield 1942, BFCentral have released overheads of all 16 Multiplayer maps that will be available on release of the full version. With GameArena announcing that they intend to support BF1942 with an Australian ladder for the game, and clans really getting into the game from dod, tribes2 and RTCW, it seems now is a good time to grab a quick look at the maps for strats. You can check the maps out on BFcentral here (thanks to Bennett from Atomic for the heads up). |

GameArena will support a Ladder
This stinks. Constanly we are told by GA that there are no reasouces for new games. This game comes along an hey we got heaps of stuff for it ???? I'd like GA to come clean about why there are resorces for this game an not for others ??? I mean don't get me wrong i think 1942 will rock once the bugs r ironed out but I'm very suss on why GA can say that they r gonna give considerable resorces for it considering that it's yet to be released an it popularity may or may not be there(though juding on the demo it will be). People have still gotta buy this game. I for one will be waiting till I see the hype die down an people reactions to it then. |

I think that unless the writers fix up the worlds s***tiest netcode so that aim actually matters in this game then its not going to make it that far.

this is the sickest game since cs.hah, good joke there...made my day thats for sure. Also, i noticed they have Kursk as one of the maps (/me wets self) ..this will be the most awesome map for massive tank battles. |

cs was good?
anyway, the netcode isn't that bad. I found that when you stop the game list from pinging while your in a game that the game is much more playable. only thing that needs attention is when people take controle of the large ship and your standing on it. lag heaven :( |

Bit upset that they have Tobruk but no distinct 'Aussie' troops, instead we are lumped with the British again:(
And a Kokoda map would have been nice as well! |

I believe the gun trajectorys do drop over time as I was sniping the other day at extreme long distance and wasn't killing them with the crosshairs over them, so I raised it above them and nailed them. Also the BF1942 developers have also stated for people running you have to lead your shots in front of them, saying it wasn't the netcode, but bullets take a little bit of time to travel. I have tried this and seem to be getting better accuracy based on the puff of dirt when I miss. The longer the range, the longer the bullets take (still only ms's though)

I loved the Kursk mission in Il-2 so this BF1942 map will be cool, Just think the (Second, oops!) largest tank battle being re-enacted in like the largest multiplayer game. Fight for Mother Russia and blow the s*** out of the Krauts. Add a class called McBain: "Ahhhh, Commie Nazis"

Thank god the accuracy is the way it is. It adds to the realism. If you've ever done any ranged shooting with anything (rifle or pistol), you will realise that 60 year old weapons werent capable of high accuracy...despite your 'perfect' aim (ie for gun freaks...try 4-6MOA for these old guns..or worse (MOA = Minute of Angle..which means 4-6 inches of spread). Good one EA!! These are WW2 weapons, not state of the art M4A1s. If you want accuracy: - Try lying down before you shoot...and dont run around or stand. - Use the Scout class..but remember, these are still old weapons...not the latest HK-80. - or just go back to CS. At least this gives us old timers/lesser aimers a chance...and makes for a lot more close quarters spraying. Admit it...its more fun that way. If accuracy was perfect in this game..there would be no chance for Infantry rushes...as the leet shooters with Sniper rifles would have you dead before you left the base and started the run accross no mans land. Take the good with the bad and enjoy it for what it is. |

Bullet travel time/ tragectory would explain a good chunk of the Server CPU usuage. IF every bullet had to have its arc calculated each frame...

Its interesting listening to you guys talk about the realism. I remember reading an interview with one of the devs, and they said they where after gameplay, and not realism. I think that bullet trajectory isnt a good idea for the sake of gameplay (however the inaccuracy of the guns is good, having to shoot above the target cause the shot "arcs" isnt good).
So far I cannot wait for the full version. Not too long left either! A few weeks and it will be great fun! |

As I did do target rifle shooting for a bit, I reckon having to compensate for bullet fall over distance is an awesome idea, adds an element of skill to it (like getting the range with the destroyer cannons right :) ). Mmmm, realism.

Bullet trajectories on normal hitscan bullet guns seems a bit of a waste wouldn't you think? On processing and netowrking and such. Atleast for teh time being.

The idea has been around for a long long time and isnt theres.
That is why the 'idea' has only really started to surface over the last year. Having trajectory bullets shouldnt cut into your network usuage, as you'd have good client side prediction wouldn't you ;) With 2 gig CPU's there is plenty of room to calculate arcs, but for computers running multipal servers it isnt too crash hot.. However I think havin arcs and whatnot is good for 1942, the more feel of WW2 it can give the better. |

I think that level of realism is maybe a bit much, but then I think all these "realism" fps games are crap anyway. Too much realism gets in the way of the fun, and turns what could be a fast paced intense game into a strategic gayfest.

I say take away the servers from the "1337 |+|4X0|2Z" just to watch them cry and whine like babies, that would provide me with some entertainment. Then give the servers to 1942 and watch them cry even more, oh the fun..

Vortrog that has gotta be the biggest load of s***. WWII weapons not being very accurate what a heap of f***ing s***.
The .303 is a great and very accurate riffle as is the Yank Gerand. The Gerand is capable of hitting targets easily at 1000 yrds. The German MG42 machine gun was and still is one of the most accurate MG's ever made. In fact the MG42 is so good it's used in many of the worlds armies even today, ours being one of them. Give me a .303 at 400m and you choose what ever the hell you like and you'll lose.I can hit targets the size of a mans hand at 200m with my .303 so a human head or chest is no challenge at 400m. |
