Talk in the newspapers today about Australia competing in the next pommie-bash games as individual states rather than a single country.
Makes sense I guess, the CWG constitution restriction apparently is simply that individual entities must have their own parliament, hence England, Northern Ireland, Wales, even Norfolk Island (an Australian territory) compete individually. I think I tend to agree - just gets a bit boring watching us totally bend over the whole Commonwealth, people in the UK barracking for "ABA" (Anyone but Australia) ... and the swimming hasn't even started yet :) |

England, Wales and Scotland are apart of the United Kingdom. They compete under each of there own Countries in the oylimpics not as 3.

I think that it is a stupid idea to compete as states, as said above we are a country competing in the comonwealth games not states. Yes we do dominate in the geams but why is that? We have close to the smallest population out of all the countries in it.
Maybe the other countries actually try and compete to give us a challenge? But splitting us up into states for a games like that is just stupid. |

Given the way qualifying is done to get into the games team, you'd have to think that if we were split into state teams we'd have twice the people going the games.
There are only so many spots in each event so if each state was able to put a team in that would increase the number of spots over all. Sounds like a great idea to me. :) |

18-0. I feel proud to say that I trained on a regular basis with most of the australian hockey team in 1995-1996 :) |

would i be wrong to say that these are the commonwealth games?
they wont really give preferences to other countries than the UK since its all about the 'commonwealth' the leader of the commonwealth being england. this is a little outdated view but i think it applies |

Australia: A country, created democratically in 1901 by draft of legislation. A standalone entity in world affairs. A country by all definitions of the world, and an active part of the Commonwealth of Independant States.
I fail to see how these facts are disputable enough to put good reason to force our sub-states to compete seperately in the games of the Commonwealth, when Australia itself fits as 'A state of the Commonwealth'. This has been international law and democracy 101, thanks for attending. Please leave a sizable donation when you leave. |

It's pretty obvious why the want to do it.
But then what about other countries with states/provinces. Does that mean Canada would have to split up to, so they can get even more owned?
He they've got significantly more than us, they'd get schooled. |
