Whatever the ones at the last 3 QGL LANs were, my server had consistantly better ping, with the same or more number of players.

well, it's a serious question as my aim is to learn to build decent gaming servers. Screwing the bits together is childs play, but configuration it seems is an art form the eludes me.

Anyone out there who can suggest a site or 2 with some faqs on the matter? I've emailed a few clans, but frankly, most don't seem to take the matter all that seriously, or simply don't wish to advertise their inexperience with such matters.

Also, who configures the Ausgamers/CPL servers these days?

The GateWay server that just went up down in Melbourne is a dual P3-600, 512mb ECC RAM, and 2 x 9gb SCSI HDD's. The rest of the configuration is pretty standard.

SCSI IMO is unnecessary for a strictly games server; but currently the Melbourne server is doing web server stuff so the SCSI comes in handy.
