Well, once again, the consoles proved to be popular, with the PS2 gaining more of a foothold at this lan than it did at the last. Virtua Tennis and Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast were once again shown to be crowd favourites, as were Tekken Tag and Dead or Alive 2 on the PS2. If you were lucky enough to be at the venue before 12 on saturday morning you would have seen us running the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo up on the projector screen. B2 brought along his Japanese PS2 and the MGS2 demo and we put it through its paces and proved just how crap I would be if I really were a leet spy type guy :) We also gave the japanese versions of Onimusha and Zone of the Enders a bash. I've put together a bit of a feature on the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo and my impressions of Onimusha and Zone of the Enders. Go have a read, it took me long enough to write! :) |

Hiding bodies thief-style is going to be awesome :). But the only new stuff you mentioned was that, shooting around corners and hiding in lockers. Almost sounds like you haven't played the original?! |

heh, I haven't :P At least, not very much. I probably owe it to myself to hire/buy the original. Oh and I know one other thing I bet the original doesn't have, uber rain effects! The rain looked so sweet, and when you're inside you can watching it running down the windows and the like. Awesome stuff. I dunno whats new and whats not, but its all good, and thats what matters :) |

You can burn my PC version at the next QGL if you want, if you have a burner. :) Of course, you'll want to play it with a pad, I play with a Freestyle Pro. |

I thought the little boy in ZOE was actually a little girl, but it's damn hard to tell with Japanime as the only hint in prebubescence seems to be pupil dilation ;) Dunno *shrug* |

Sif you need a pad to play MGS PC. I finished my copy with keys. Top game though, well worth $90 |

I didn't pay for it, 'cause I'm an 1337 w4r3z p1r4t3z0r. Or was. It's more fun with a pad. |

Little girl... little boy... I think in anime, until a character is old enough to grow breasts and be shown off in many comprimising poses, the gender is non-specific. |

It's well worth playing the original. Not just because it, to this point, has been the most eye opening game I've played. But also because the events and the end (and throughout really) of MGS apparently drive MGS2. Or something ;) Bit of trivia: David Hayter, the screenwriter for the X-Men movie, voices Solid Snake in the original. Snake? Snake?!? SNAAAAAAAAKKKE!!!! |

So does the Metal Gear part of the name have something to do with big robots? Cause from bits and pieces I've read theres apparently some big mech/robot in MGS2 called Metal Gear Ray.... |

Yep...the storyline depicts Metal Gears as something like "huge walking tanks capable of launching an undetected nuclear strike from anywhere on the planet". Sounds a bit silly....but hey....it's Japanese based fiction. They love giant robots! And lizards. And turtles. And smog monsters. And smaller giant robots who form into one giant giant robot..... In MGS we had Metal Gear Rex....in MGS2 it's Ray as you mentioned. Do yourself the favor and play MGS through. Even though it wasnt the most spectacular ending I've seen, it would have to be the most rewarding. |

what I liked about it was it had some neat replayability - like if you played it through a second time, you got different things - like the bandana (heh) which gives you unlimited ammo. I think if you go through a third time, you get the invis suit thingy (?) |

David Hayter's voice sounds uncannily like Stephen Russel's (Garrett from Thief) imo. MGS is interesting just for learning about the history of Nuclear Weaponry. There're a few points in the game where Nastasha tells you HEAPS, plus there's a lot of real footage from nuclear tests, etc. Very educational. |

trog, it wasnt how many times you completed it for the bandana or stealth suit, it was wether or not you were able to save meryle (!?) when you were getting tortured. if you saved her you got the stealth suit, if you didnt you got the bandana. 3rd time you complete the game i think you wore a Tux, then 4th time i think you got to wear something similar to Grey Fox's suit thingy |

res messed up, if you DONT save meryl, you get the stealth suit, because Otacon comes and the end and saves you with the jeep, considering he had the stealth suit the whole time. meryl's the one with the bandana. |

So is there a huge difference between the PSX version and the PC version? I can get it on either, but which is cheaper and is there any big differences? |

Bah....sure the PC version will have better resolution and textures, but I'd rather play the PS version on a big screen with sound through a beefy hi-fi system. Of course....you could hook up the PC to that big screen.... ;) |
