i got a linux router doobie that sits on a floppy, all command line stuff, well bar the web-interface that lets you setup port forwarding and ip blocking, and a few other random stuff, but it cheats and extracts stuff to a ram drive :)

Yes, I'm aware this is an old thread, but many of you didn't check it out and it has now been updated many times. It is really worth the small download. it(menuetOS) now supports networking and internet stuff. soon they will support harddrives and stuff. you can compile C/C++ programs with a/the compiler if you wish. It'd work great as a small router, and in the (hopefully)near future a file server. It seems stable for me and very fast :)
