The guys from MadOnion.com have released a new 3dMark package, called 3dMark 2001. Basically, its a few quick 'demos', like game scenes that are rendered in realtime to benchmark the Direct 3d performance of your video card. It has got some pretty cool bits in it, including a really cool recreation of the lobby scene in the Matrix (I bet it gets Foxed at some point). Go and download it and then comment in this thread and let us know your system spec and what score you get at the end - just click the Benchmark button and leave the settings default.

Update by Nathan: its pretty important to specify what your system specs are with a decent amount of detail. I'd suggest posting your CPU (Make & Speed), bus speed, amount of RAM (and speed if known), 3d Card, 3d card driver version, operating system, and of course your result.

They must have revised their marking system. I was quite happy that my comp running the previous version of 3dmark was four times faster than trog's. :)

I had the det 3 6.50 drivers installed but sometimes got a blue screen saying your computer has packed up and left town and all i can do is restart, so i put my standard 3.60 drivers one which run ok but can someone give me good opengl settings please. Also it says my p3 667 can run at 800... should i overclock it or is it going to be unstable and melt? And with the overclocking program that comes with my video card, how far can i turn up the notches before it gets unstable also? Thanks!

The results are in...

I got a whopping

1250

or there abouts.

For those interested, I tested under win2k and win98se, getting scores within a few marks of each other.

Some strange results, though, like it reckons my card has a fill rate of 114 MTexel/sec, when I know it should be about double that. Maybe it doesn't measure it properly.

My specs again, for those who can't scroll back up...

Okay, since I just did an upgrade, here's some results from my in-the-middle-of-getting-upgraded system

Friday:
- PII/400
- 128mb ram
- TNT2 m64
- 440BX-based MB

I got a pitiful 325 at 1024@32, and a slightly less pitiful 550 at 640@16

Saturday:
- PII/400
- 256mb ram
- GeForce 2 mx (Asus 7100)
- 440BX-based MB

I got 1021 at 1024@32, and 1217 at 640@16. Definitely the cheapest performance upgrade I've got in a while ;p

All these scores are untweaked and running on Win2k, so I might post some more after I've gone tweak crazy.

is it overclocked? Even if not, it could be overheating. When I overclocked my old duron I didn't have enough cooling on it and it used to overheat after about the 3rd of 4th test and just lock up the computer.
