why?

i mean where did nVidia come from and it's not like SiS are a small company...they have been around for ages it's about time someone gave nVidia a kick up the arse and said stick that GF6 up ur arse!

ooher - AGP 8x has finally reared it's head. :D

I wonder if this is the card that Hardware.fr were referring to when they said there's a card coming that's twice the speed of a GF4ti4600... I don't think it is.

Good to see, though, that the lower-profile companies are not giving up on the graphics chip market. Even if they aren't able to match nVidia, the SiS chip should be a decent low-price solution.

apparently the new xabre chip outperforms the gf4 mx 440 :) so sucked in to any people who got conned into the gf4 mx deal haha

Apart from that I was trying to find one of those pictures : Welcome to last month but have had no luck

and its nice to see another offering for pc graphics

explague, you dont seem to realise the fact that SiS are just some tin-shed operations...

they're a big company, and its not exactly like there is secret to making a fast video card.

You also fail to realise that none of the SIS xabre cards are designed to go head-to-head with GF4Ti's. Or any other high performance card. Only to go with low performance (cheap) sector.

Not that this sector is small :p

I dont fail to realise anything....

there is no special hold that nvidia holds on the market, other than no one else can be f***ed to do it because it is not seen as a highly profitable venture...

just that simple

The high-end gaming market gets you recognition in the gaming sector, but doesn't often yield high profit margins. The low-end, business (workstation) market is where most companies make the bulk of their money. The thing is that the business market doesn't give a s*** if you have a flagship card that can do 100+fps in q3 at 1280x1024 at 4x antialiasing, or if you support DX8.1 or anything. So long as the drivers are stable, quality is satisfactory and the price is right, then business users will buy it. Have you seen recent SiS chips (prior to the Xabre)???!?! They kinda suck, but I reckon they sell a s***load coz they cost next to nothing.

Competition Still rules. Low prices for everyone!

but nvidia only had one person to compete against ... and that was 3dfx.

So realy they had to compete with a company whos idea of customer service, was to try and enforce everyone to use a property graphics api, or telling gamers that we realy didnt want 32bit colours, and telling developers not to use dx or opengl...

umm what else did they do... Oh yeah instead of actualy improving the preformance of there cards, they just made it so you could use two cards at the same time.

Then you have truly s*** driver support, legal action for the wrapper for it to work in openGL, oh and telling everyone that motion blur was the biggest thing on gods green earth.

Then Nvidia bought 3dfx.

and all rejoiced.

nvidia isn't actualy bad ... it has good hardware and good driver support... On top of that there beta drivers get released often for the hardcore freaks to run the "fastest" driver set at any time.

People who use beta drivers cant bitch about them being unstable.

There development cycle is rather fast ... but everyones development cycle is fast ... even if 3dfx was still around (hahah asseeff) they would still be looking at a high develment cycle... Hell that is how they make money. Not to mention that games are increasing with every generation.

And lastly if your bitch with nvidia lays with either beta drivers being unstable, build a bridge. If your bitch with nvidia is that they have a fast develment cycle ... sucked in for being a poor unemployed bum.

Hobbies are expense, computers are a expensive hobby.

and then ...

:)

of course i realy love the idea of multiple companys making good and fast graphic chipsets. Too much means that companies go out of business and the prices go up. But a couple of realy popular companies mean good stuff at dirt cheap prices.

yeh man! add a f***ing "ti" on the end of the card and charge an extra 300 dollars! for sure!

same chip, cept they just probably pull out a few corks they had stuck in there originally..

2 cards, makes sense.. they have 2 cpu's in systems, why not 2 graphics cards?

aren't people sick of 'wow big fast mega ultra chip comin out to kick everyone's asses' type stories? They never happen.

compared to?

compared to my GF3 a Sis315 is slow, but it sure as hell walks all over a GF2mx 200 and anything less.

Sis have done well here, and deserve a little more recognition than they are currently getting.

Gotta LURV tall poppy syndrome.

One of Australia's healthiest national traits, which involves taking a sceptical view of people who are rich, powerful or successful, and cutting them down to size when they appear pretentious
A few years ago you were cheering for nVidia, yet now your falling over for other 'underdog' companies. At least companies new to the (semi) high performance category.

Give credit where it's due, nVidia slaw.

I do dude... I went out and spent $1000 bucks on one of their videocards.

I back the small guys to the hilt though, the same way I did back when Nvidia stood in 3DFX's shadow.

and I don't know about you, but I don't think I'll ever shell out a grand for a videocard ever again.

the power increase is never worth bucks you part with imo. And sif you'd brag about wasting $1k on a popular brand videocard.

first no one wanted to use another API, glide rocked

second i hardly think a voodoo1 was anywhere near as fast as a voodoo2, whats wrong with sli? 2x voodoo2s run about as fast as a voodoo3 which is prety good i think.

go SiS!

they were slow compared to everything. i'm not saying the new chip WILL b slow, but in the past sis have been less than mediocre.

voodoo 2 cards did rock ... but that was 3dfx answer to new tech... Dodgy engineering.

I'm not saying that the end result didn't own everyone f***ing silly but it wasn't the right answer of improving the feature list.

have you actually run a 315? they own dude. sure they're no GF3, but the 315 is more efficent than a GF2mx and cheaper too.
