Well I just heard that Limp Bizkit have pulled the pin on the remaining Big Day's Out due to security concerns. Apparently there were a few injuries in the crowd yesterday at the Sydney BDO, anybody who was there care to elaborate perhaps? Apparently they plan to come back again this year to take in the cities they missed on their own terms... |

Apparantly the crowd surged forward or something and people got pulled under and got crushed, one fella had a serious brain hemmorage (spell??). And if anyone has foxtel and channel V then watch out for the music news throughout the day and its got the "official reasons". |

Amazing what a bit of digging can do :) Ripped from the BDO site: BIG DAY OUT TO CONTINUE WITHOUT LIMP BIZKIT 27-01-01 Limp Bizkit, without notification, have decided to leave Australia without concluding the Big Day Out series. It is of great regret that the promoters announce this as the band was a featured attraction that Australian audiences were looking forward to seeing. Limp Bizkit have cited their reason for leaving as the Big Day Out failing to fully implement their proposed safety measures.Big Day Out organisors totally refute this claim. The Big Day Out has a principal commitment to crowd safety and security of all patrons. The measures proposed by Limp Bizkit were substantial, untested and radical changes to the existing structures and procedures in place for the show as understood by the Australian safety authorities, including the police and planning bodies. Additionally, the changes would have required substantial revisions of existing safety protocols and the Ë promoters were unprepared to introduce these measures at short notice and with little preparation for security staff. Unfortunately the band performance was of sufficient intensity to provoke unprecedented and ferocious crowd activity in front of the stage. Given the tension between the band and festival across a range of issues, the producers have expressed some relief at the departure of Limp Bizkit. Due to the impeccable safety record of the event over 10 years and it's successful history in dealing with the biggest bands in the world, producers feel can reassure patrons that their enjoyment of the event will be unaffected. Producers are pleased to announce the elevation of Powderfinger (winners of yesterdays Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown and currently Australia's number act) to the closing position of the show. Patrons will be offered the option of attending the event as proposed without Limp Bizkit or refunding their tickets in full (with details to be announced shortly SYDNEY BIG DAY OUT CROWD SAFETY / INCIDENT REPORT As a consequence of excessive heat, and crowd excitement BIG DAY OUT organisors have had a difficult situation with a volatile audience during the Limp Bizkit performance at the Sydney BIG DAY OUT. The performance was stopped several times in an effort to evaluate the health and safety of our audience. Fire marshals responded quickly and five high velocity hoses sprayed water on the crowd, thereby reducing the temperature and volatility of the situation. Dunng the course of this incident, several people were hospitalised with minor injuries for observation. In addition one serious injury occurred with full details as yet unconfirmed. Leading up to the Sydney event, pit security for the BIG DAY OUT was virtually doubled, with extra measures in place to ensure crowd safety. This incident is particularly distressing in light of the Big Day Out's impeccable commitment to the safety of patrons Several times during their performance Limp Bizkit urged the audience to step back and assist fellow concert goers in need of assistance and promoters compliment the bands diligence in this. The organisors of the event would like to acknowledge the full co-operation of Limp Bizkit through this difficult situation and their commitment to the safety of their audience. Organisors have supplemented the existing safety measures with additional barrier and safety staff for consequent events. Big Day Out organisors express profound concern for the wellbeing of the injured and will ensure that everything is done to avoid a repeat of this situation. |

news.com.au is carrying a story about it as well. Apparently the chick in question had a heart attack and was resuscitated on the site, then rushed to hospital where she remains in intensive care. As well as that, there were a few others taken to hospital during the Limp set, and others earlier in the day for things like dehydration and overdoses. Well, I can hardly blame them for being a bit miffed about it now! |

It has always been during the hottest time of the year, it's the festival season after all, you'd have a real tough time convincing foreign acts to come out here during their summer. Oh, and no comment to the Limp Bizkit sucks comment, you pack of trolls. |

Note that the option to have the ticket refunded has been offered by the organisers. In the event you were only going to see Limp (sif!), then you'd be ok.... |

Yeh, unfortunately there aren't any real Australian headliners yet, Powderfinger are good mind you, but not quite THAT good. Limp probably contributed about oh $5-$10 of my ticket :) I only watched 3 songs from afar b4 going back to the Boiler Room. They should have just moved the line up one hour and got Rammstein to headline, everybody thought they were better than Limp anyway. |

A guy at the gold coast was standing outside and watching ppl trying to push their way into the bigdayout when he got kinghit by a security and has internal bleading, he has to go back to hospital to get a ole drilled in his head to drain some fluif out. and a lady had a heart attack in the mosh pit and they had to crown surf her to the ambulance tent those were the 2 stories on the news. and frankly i dont blame them for leaving. |

I wouldn't have blamed Rammstein if they pulled out after the amount of s*** that was thrown at the stage while they were playing. A very full-looking bottle even hit the lead singer in the throat, and he just kept on singing. We were expecting him to just go "f*** yas!" and walk off, but he just trashed a mic stand and went on singing! :) |

Yeh, there's no way i'd be staying if I had 7 people at my gig hospitalised. It's not far from the Roskilder Festival last year when 11 or 12 people actually died during a Pearl Jam gig, that would really really suck to have that happen. Through no fault of your own, 12 of your fans died at one of your concerts, what a head trip. |
