It seems to lock up during ANY half-life gameage.
I have had this problem with 3 operating systems, and i am getting a little bit s***ted off, especially with the qgl lan getting closer...

it seems to do it while running open gl.

pls help, i am feeling a little bit insane atm, and would like to shoot this c*** of a thing...

ok, I reckon save your config, and then delete the config.cfg in your cstrike folder.

then go into the video options and make it 800x600 (first) then try and play a map of cs.

then type exec backup.cfg (backup being your saved config. and you should have all your video and keys rebound.

f*** you people aren't even close

corpse can you borrow someone else's 3d card? If you can, grab it, whack it into the slot, do the driver thing and then try HL. My best bet is that your video card has taken a beating. OpenGL just doesn't "crash" a system so easy =P

its either the 3d card

Pom, I agree with Einstein. Grab bowen's card (its the same one isnt it? tnt2?) and see what happens. Are your errors BOD or just resetting?

Call me pommy if you need my help.

You problem with CS or HL might not be video card etc. When you upgraded cs did you use the upgrade patches? or did you d/l the full version and install it. I had the same problem, and what happens is, the upgrade changes a .cfg file in your hl directory which stuffs up your video card. All it is , is simply 3 lines of text you add to a file. I dun remember exactly, but surf the official halflife forums and they should tell you

sounds like win2k has disabled agp support :(

if all else fails...

-reinstall win2k
-install via 4-in-1 4.28a
-install all your drivers except your video card ones
-install service pack 1
-install DX8
-install detonator 6.47 (or whatever one you want)
-install via agp hotfix
-install coolbits reg-thingo and turn off V-SYNC & FSAA
-enjoy

okies boys, and plague...

i have tried pretty much all of that, except for changing video cards.

i have reistalled o/s, i have reinstalled half-life, changed video drives (i now have the latest det3 drivers) even changed sound drivers, done the config file thingy in the cstrike directory, reseated ALL of my cards, even f*** around with norton antivirus (that made a bit of an improvement), and i have now got rid of NAV, and it still does it...

i have f***ed off just about every thing that chews up some resourses, and it still does it...

but anyway, i have about 4 other video cards the same as mine that i can get my hands on, so i will try your suggestion einstein...

thanx guys...

/me wont be laying the smaq down on any of yo asses w00t!

reinstall your via drivers if you are running 2k its got a line in the readme that states 'if you are running windows 2000 you must run setup with the switch /x or something'

so ie, you go to dos shell and go to the dir with the agp via drivers in it, and go setup.exe /x or whatever the switch is

that will install it manually replacing the old ones, and it will re-enable 4x agp mode or whatever -

this happened on my friends duron and i fixed it via the aforementioned way
