My parents recently had their Bathroom renovated and they have one of those new taps where Hot and Cold are the same tap.
The problem is you cant get the Hot Water to Balance with the cold. Full Hot is Hot Full Cold is Cold anywhere in between and it kind of slowly becomes either full hot or full cold. This has been a problem in the past but with separate taps you could usually get it to eventually work but now its impossible. Any tips on what could be the problem ? cheers |

does it have adjustable valves inside the mixer?
i'd say at least one of them is fully open, imo it sounds their plumbers problem give him a dial and say "yo mario, come and fix this s*** - the princess is in another castle" |

well it took 2 weeks to get him back to finish the plumbing so i wouldnt be holding my breathe. He claimed it would be fine. Did he test it ? nope.
The job was done kind of 'on the side' *wink wink* so cant really complain. |

what "on the side" ?
either they're a licensed plumber or they aren't, you can work for a big plumbing supply company and still do on the side jobs, certainly no laws against it imo call him and say "either get out here and fix it or give me a refund and i'll call someone capable" |

sounds like the cartridge inside the shower diverter is fubared, its a little plastic cylinder with ceramic washers inside, cheap and easy to change but not something you can do yourself legally i believe

lol legally (when it comes to plumbing)
I *might* call a sparky to come do s*** to my load center but there's no way I'm going to bother ringing a plumber so I can "legally" change my faucet/washers etc |

Is it an instantaneous hot water system? The gas type that heat your water as you use it?
If so, it's probably that. As the tap starts to reduce the hot water flow and mix in cold the hot water system automatically shuts off as there isn't enough water flowing through it. |

What's the hot water system? Have you moved from non water saving device to water saving device?

hmm I've got to constantly adjust the temp of our shower too but ours is a normal old electric one. Jump in and it's cold so you put a bit more hot on and 30 seconds later you're cookin like a f***en lobster so a bit less hot and 30 seconds later say hi to the polar bears in this freezing s***.
I blame valve software |

ya thats it. but ours is gas.
Silly old man wont ring the plumber to take a look. It was slowly leaking water for the last 6 months or so. just few drops every hour. Some other plumber had a look about 12 months ago and was supposed to get back to him but he never did. You have to install your Gas Hot Water thing outside the house now. Its illegal or something to have them under your house(old Queenslander) He gonna buy a new one. |

Faceman, do you live with your folks or does your dad just call you whenever he has an issue with his house? (Not meaning it in a bad way or anything)

plumbing is a licensed trade, even if its changing a washer. if you're not a plumber and you don't have a clue, don't f***ing touch it. Us plumbers go through alot of bulls***, laws and Australian standards just to get our ticket, and thats not even a contractors license.. not to mention all the tools we need to buy to do the job... moral of the story, use a licensed plumber, your basin mixer replaced, its probably a cheap Chinese one. if you need it done, PM me. |

I thought Faceman was the dude from the Dukes of Hazard movie.
So are you saying I was right faceman? And yes, it's now illegal to have a gas hotwater under the house, has to be outside so it becomes a little more expensive to replace it. But an existing system is ok to stay there. I know, I've looked into it. Even if you replace it with a new one (hotwater system) the problem might still be there, those mixer taps are pretty s*** at the best of times and even worse with gas hot water, the plumber told me this when he did out kitchen tap (which is one of those mixers). last edited by mission at 22:20:29 11/Mar/10 |

do you really believe this? I am not having a go at you but do you really seriously expect people to call in a plumber to do real basic jobs? |

No Im only a few streets away from the oldys.
Thats interesting about it not working well with Gas. What s***s me is the plumber should have tested it. He screwed them around for ages too. |

. not to mention all the tools we need to buy to do the job... 2 spanners, a hammer, a blowtorch, some soldering lead and a re-seating tool. OH NOES e: Oh and can anyone confirm/deny that if you have an electric system now, the next time it dies you HAVE to go gas? That's what a plumber told us when the thermostat broke on our electric one. Trouble is we live in a single storey house and the heater is inside so to get a gas one and put it outside is going to be rather expensive I'm guessing. last edited by whoop at 23:31:13 11/Mar/10 |

do you really believe this?No i don't, but most people out there don't have a clue, and it ends up costing them more money to get it done properly the second time around. 2 spanners, a hammer, a blowtorch, some soldering lead and a re-seating tool. OH NOESits more than a couple of spanners, spanner head.. Jet rodder to clear blocked drains is roughly $4500, pipe benders, flaring tools , electric copper crimper's.. list goes on... you have no idea. last edited by BigZub at 23:46:20 11/Mar/10 |

of course there's more to it than that, but you don't call in a network tech to diagnose your dsl when it goes out right?
if my tap sprung a leak I'm just going to fix it myself the only thing I'm going to call a plumber for is when I need something connected to a sewer or when I need a $4500 jet rodder for a few hours |
