I've never bothered with any reward schemes in the past because I find the whole thing completely confusing and there's about 1000 different options to choose from. However I figure if I can get something for nothing I should probably look at doing it.
Can anyone recommend the best program to get on? I'm not interested in carrying 5 different cards, I just want a credit card that will give me points that will convert to decent airlines and/or stuff. I bank with Westpac, and from what I see Amex cards offer the most points but heaps of places have surcharges for Amex so I'd prefer mastercard/visa. Ta. |

Quite a few banks now offer Mastercard/visa with a partner Amex card so at least you have the option of both without having to juggle 2 separate accounts.

Unless you plan to funnel your entire consumption through it (note that many places have CC surcharges, and you can't pay rent / mortgage by CC usually) you are far, far better off seeking the card with the lowest rate / annual fees.

While ravn0s has a valid point, and one that applys to most people (including me) - if you use your credit card for all your purchased, and even better if you have a company that needs to make large purchases and you can charge those to your card as well, then it's useful. Best to get something like a qantas or virgin card as well as their frequent flier cards, to double dip. Also, if you go with qantas, you can get an everyday card for woolies and they give you frequent flier points for money you spend there. |

those companies that offer "rewards" are the same companies that specifically state they will sell your details to advertising companies, you sign the contract and agree for them to do this when you sign up for the card.

Yeh I'm with Commonwealth Bank and I have Master Card and a Amex Card all on 1 account. So everyone month i get 1 statement that tells me how much i sent on Master Card and how much i spent on Amex... I get 1point for every dollar on Master Card and 1.5 on my Amex. I like the idea :)
BTW just started this point thing had my credit card for years and use to $50 without any points. but worked out i can use my points to get rid of the yearly fee. So even though you might need heaps of points for something at the end of the day i am doing better than i was :) |

I have got a NAB Visa Gold. Zero fees and dunno what the interest rate is because only suckas pay interest. Buit one thing I do know is that NAB have the lowest mortgage rate of all the major banks and that was the kicker for me.

except all the advertising they would stuff in your letter box um, no. been with cba CC for 5+ years, push all purchases through it that don't incur fees (like rent)... and have not received any spam. the last 2 years since moving out have been the best, accumulating most of hte 100k points i would have (but dont because i redeemed a $500 gift card). not bad when i've paid $0 annual fees and $0 interest. ur all suckassss |

We melted our credit cards in a pagan credit card melting ritual. We only have VISA debit now. |
