Topic: "Mad cainer grat props" explanation thread

Hai guise,

Ok, so you QLD'er country folk say 'props' and 'major props' and stuff which we don't say down here in Melb. I'm representing though, and use it in day to day life now. People look at me strange like I'm from the Far North, but I just sn***** at their snide attitude towards our lesser educated friends in Banana-land with their Cane Toad pals.

I was just wondering if 'props' is actually an abbreviation of a full word? I have been thinking about it for a few months and I couldn't work it out.

I prayed at night sometimes that the good Lord would answer with a definition but alas no divine intervention has occurred.

Kind regards,

Pink bits

It's early-mid 90s ebonics. Perhaps it's a meme :(

from urban dictionary

Props, short for Propers, -Don't forget that the entire word "propers" is used in the song "Respect", written by Otis Redding and most famously recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1967. At least, I think it is ("all I'm askin' in return honey is to give me my propers when I get home")-

alright goes back a bit further, but definitly from black america.

The correct phrase is "Mad Propz" and it means I show adoration or respect for your action.

Now replaced by "Gangster as"

Slang term for "accolades", "proper respect", or "just dues". Popularized in the 1980s by rappers who shortened the term "propers" which was in turn being used as an abbreviated version of "proper respect" at least by the 1960s. The increase in this term's usage during the late 1980s and early 1990s coincided with an increasing fascination with the mafia within rap circles. Both communities have traditionally placed great emphasis on the importance of earning and giving respect.

My four-year-old son is the king of Chutes and Ladders, but punk neighbor kids won't give him his props.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=props

I'm not sure this is a word used in verbal communication much, certainly not in FNQ anyway.

Yeah, I do start many threads.

I do computational analysis of structural systems which are often explicitly defined (integrated over time).

Unfortunately this type of analysis is very time-consuming.

In a week I will go quiet for three weeks though, so you'll have a break from me, sparrow :-)

Yeah, I use "mad props" sometimes, usually along with "mad skills" because I often give people with mad skills mad props.

I can't stand people who say "LOL" as if it's a word. It's an abbreviation describing a physical expression, not onomatopoeia. Sort it out people.

IMO people that say it are inadequately expressing themselves and therefore communicating incorrectly and should go back to body language school. People that say "LOL" whilst laughing out aloud have added an unnecessary redundancy to their communication.

Hehe, way to over-explain a simple phenomenon :-P

You old man. Many words never used to be considered words. As far as I'm concered, Lol is now a word with the meaning of 'amusement' or 'the thing someone else just said was amusing'.

Also, it is not acceptable IRL, as Agent 99 stated.

Do you pronounce pwned as 'owned' or 'poaned'?

I can handle 'owned' but 'poaned' makes me want to end lives.

You old man.

:'(

spaz, don't be like that. I'm cool, I'm hip, I'm with it! I'm 'a cold chillin' with a 40 and a blunt, ya dig?

(Übersetzen: I am leisurely enjoying a forty ounce bottle of malt liquor and a marijuana cigarette, what do you think about that?)

I've never used props in real life and the only time I use kain is in terms of speed or pain, i.e. I was kaining along not looking at my speedo and wouldn't you know it the popo shows up. Needless to say I cbf stopping so legged it but they shot me in the ass, man that kained.

p.s. that story didn't really happen so don't ask to see pictures of a bullet hole in my ass, or any other pictures of my ass.
