Just a heads up for those of you interested in the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta it launches tomorrow at 4am AEST. We'll have the client available for download at that time (in the unlikely event it survives that long before leaking or getting published on some other site and they toss the embargo out the window), so make sure you keep an eye on our files section!

We've asked for keys but not sure if we'll have some. A couple of Aussie sites will have them so I don't think they'll be hard to find.

I would be massively surprised if you didn't get one for pre-ordering. Why else would you pre-order?

Preordering on steam gives access to the beta... $49.99 USD for limited edition.

No mention of beta access for pre-order, I pre-order from GAME UK for better prices and speedy dispatch.

I really have no interest at all in this game, I don't understand why its getting so much hype and why people are so excited about it. I mean, the first one flew almost entirely under the radar, I think I only know 1 person who even played it, and yet this one is getting hyped to no end.

I mean, it doesn't look like a bad game or anything, but it doesn't look like anything particularly special or interesting either, I don't get why its whipping people into a frenzy and getting them so excited.

Looks pretty kick-arse to me. This could be the next big large-team competitive game since BF2.

I agree. If it has the pizazz of COD4/MW2 Multi with less gay (s*** hosts, lame netcode whereby you watch a killcam after you stab someone 3 times then empty a clip into them only to witness you apparently just stood there with your fist up your ass riding your rifle like a broomstick cowboy)...

Then I'm in, but for all intents and purposes, I went for it mostly because I oved 1942, then Loved Desert Combat, but for the life of me, I absolutely hated infantry combat, it was always broken - you could empty a clip into someone at point blank range and only half the bullets would hit etc. etc. even over a lan.

I'm hoping they've fixed all this (it seems to be good from vids) in BC2.

Main reason for the whipping frenzy: MW2 failed to deliver a multiplayer experience worthy of the PC. IWNet pretty much screwed over everyone outside of U.S. BFBC2 will have a server browser when the full game is released. Essentially, almost everyone who hated MW2 PC is looking forward to this one.

I pre-ordered it. I think it looks pretty cool, more interesting than Modern Warfare 2, as far as multiplayer goes (which I also pre-ordered).

Anyone think that BF games in general 'feel' retarded? Like walking around, shooting, running and gunning, jumping, sniping... pretty much it all feels like you are carrying some down syndrome around with you.

The opposite of this would be like source, hl, id tech, ut, etc.

The only thing I play at present is MW2 because it is the only thing around at the moment. Its better than nothing but I don't really like it. The problem with MW2 multi is that its mostly just close quaters combat. Its just a test of reflexs, which is fun at first but gets boring quick.

I am so looking forward to playing a BF game again where finally tactics and strategy will really start to matter again. And where I can finally find a decent sniper whoring position. In MW2 its a bit hard to hide your sniping position when the battle is confined to the kitchen and the longest range you can sight a target at is 2 feet away.

You realise its not a made-for-PC game right? Its a console game, ported to PC, just warning you.

Its also a sequel to a game that went out of its way to be different from the normal Battlefield formula, so is it really the best place to look for a traditional Battlefield experience?

Just some things to ponder.

where did you get thats a console port? they are releasing it for pc at the same time as the toys you call consoles, battlefield 1942 and its 2 expansion packs ,bf vietnam,bf2 and its addons,bf2142, all for pc, the original BC was for consoles only yes,it graphics werent mind blowing,no matter as the battlefield series is not about graphics but gameplay.

They gave away 3000 keys on GA but they are all gone already :S Guess I will wait for the demo to see if this is any better than previous games.

Just using a bit of deductive logic, since its the sequel to a console game, and as MW2 showed the console versions sell waaaaaaaaaaaay more than the PC versions, I can't imagine any sort of scenario where the PC version of the game would be the lead SKU.

I mean, the new engine that Dice developed for Battlefield 1943, they developed it for consoles. They still haven't even brought that game out on PC yet because it was taking them longer than they thought to port the engine to PC. Surely that should give you some indication of where their priorities lie.

But at the end of the day, I'm just guessing, playing devil's advocate to the fanboys who are determined to love it. Heres hoping it suprises me and turns out awesome, cos I did used to enjoy a bit of Battlefield back in the good old days.

Oh are you for real! Wow. I'm definitely not buying that game. I was waiting for it to go on special. What happened to S&D and stuff?

The best model I reckon is the BF2 and so on where you respawn on your squad. When the squad's dead you start again. That's so much better and allows you to play with your mates properly.

Games like L4D2 with rooted server browsers and limited capacity to join in with your mates (i.e., you pretty much have to start the game with them, you can't reserve slots and by the time you start L4D2 the slot is taken and you have all the hassle of trying to kick someone) are detrimental to social gaming, which is what it's all about.
