Topic: Conroy abandons Mandatory Speed Humps

I will let Conroy's stupidity speak for itself:

After listening to public concern over the mandatory speed hump plan, Senator Conroy today abandoned the concept in favour of public education campaigns and better policing.

"Over the weekend I've realised that I don't actually know that much about traffic management and it might be best to listen to the experts," Senator Conroy said.

"People might have thought we were joking about speed humps on the freeway, but I can assure you the plan to do the same to the internet is completely real. It's been all over the news. That's fine, because anyone who opposes mandatory internet filtering obviously loves kiddie porn."

link

Ok, my 2c. First up...MANDATORY freeway speed bumps....every 100m?! What planet does this guy live on?! It's bad enough they are on local roads, but imagine everywhere?! And then he admits he's a douche and he knows nothing about it....but then turns around and accuses people of loving kiddy porn who oppose the internet filter - does that mean everyone who opposes mandatory speed bumps loves speeding, running over pedestrians and getting involved in fatal car accidents?

holy s***! that's a real quote

I don't understand how this guy is allowed to say the things he does. Isn't there a book of rules or something for politicians... some sort of policy that you have to justify your arguments and not make huge sweeping statements calling everyone that disagrees with you a paedophile?

ok well I didn't believe it when I read it in the OP, but when I clicked the link it says "SYDNEY MORNING HERALD" which I've heard somewhere is actually a proper newspaper. I wasn't familiar with newspapers having a 'blog' section..wtf...lame....

Man, I have told everyone about this s***, how do you think I feel.
Just an excuse for them to get hits by publishing fake articles and writing 'blog' in 8pt font somewhere in the corner. f***ers. Theres nothing in the definition of "blog" that means "lies".

Well it might end up discrediting him a bit more. Might actually make people aware of how stupid it is.

I thought it was real at first too, I thought SMH was reputable too and didn't realise they had a blog.

I disagree. It's published under SMH, and is close enough to questionable that it can hardly be dismissed as satire, especially consider how much of a f***ing idiot the guy in question is.

Satire should be clear, and this is not. It claims too closely to be fact, and is published by someone who's supposed to be reputable. It's no wonder online media and newspapers gone that way have such a rubbish reputation these days.

Frankly I just found this one pathetic. It's not satire. It's just plain lying.

WTF? I hadn't heard the speed bump thing, does he want to turn the M1 into a 40km/h road or something? I hope someone keys this c***s car & hacks his computer & fills it with kiddy porn. f*** off conroy.

edit: yeah it might be satire but I saw on the news that there was actually a plan to turn some of the busiest roads into 40km/h zones, whether or not that meant the M1 is what I want to know because they showed a picture of what looked like a highway.

The fact hat it has managed to fool so many people speaks volumes to how much of a Joke his internet filter plan really is.

I'd pimp this link to everyone (Facebook etc) just so they can see how stupid his safety filter is.

The use of "speed bumps" and "highway" is an analogy to the information superhighway and the filter being a speed bump in the user's experience.

Do this make the satire any clearer?

Back in the day newspapers had these things called 'Editorials' where columnists could spout about any old s***. Likewise, they had this related section called 'Letters to the Editor' where readers could spout about any old s***.
Nowadays they're just called 'Blogs' and 'Comments' respectively.

Considering some of the slow responses I'd like to thank this thread for highlighting which of fellow forum users I would and wouldn't want beside me when the zombie apocalypse hits.

I don't understand how having speed humps on highways is in any way a good idea.

Are we talking those long mounds that you can easily cruise over or the short sharp ones that need you slow right down or make everything in your boot bounce, or something in between?

A:KDSFJAS:DLJF

It would be stupid. When the road is reaching capacity it only takes a fkn car pulled over by a cop to slow EVERYONE down while random people slow down a little to gawk.

So if EVERYONE has to slow down, even for a little bit, at a speed hump this would back up traffic stupidly on near capacity roads (think peak hour).

This is kinda obvious to anyone that drives, why would you even consider it?

I think you've missed my point. Stephen Conroy is such a deluded idealist beyond what I can even begin to describe, while however unlikely and stupid this story may be, when tied to him there's entirely a chance it's credible. If it were any other politician you'd just chuckle, nod in understanding, and move on. But because it's Conroy... this man has no limits when it comes to the dumb things he can come up with.

Remember Richard Alston? He's like him. But on crack.

Dude it was pretty clear.

It's alarming to me how unclear this is. The guy is a douche, and you can imagine him actually saying some of this stuff. This looks like any normal article to me - it should be marked a lot more clearly as to it's content, "Blog" isn't a categorisation - I read a lot of reference material from "blogs"

that is your first mistake!

i've whined about these newspapers having blogs previously (mostly about news.com.au). It's marketing-cool to have a blog so they can publish all the "news" they're too gutless to post on their real front page. Don't read them, ever, IMO. Or if you do, assume (like you should with any blog, except mine of course which is always 100% factual) they're full of s***.

Not the freeway but the main road yes.
My local council and the next door one made a serious effort to ban cars from their main shopping drag, for a distance of a couple of miles.
Now my council are putting superstops for trams in the middle of a main but narrow car road instead,
Actually I support this as even tho I drive I laugh at those who ONLY drive, and I agree that public transport should be more accessible and have a higher priority.
dang! I have been caught being serious,
back to the fray I need to shoot someone quick!!
