If a dog latched onto my hand even for 5 seconds I'd be repeatedly punching and kicking that bastard until it let go. How can a dog bite your hand for twenty friggin minutes!? Dogs can just go crazy sometimes. Anyone have any good dog stories? |

Dogs have 43 muscles in their neck/jaw and Staffordshire/American Pitt Bulls have the ability to lock their jaws (makes them good hunting dogs for taking down large prey). The only way to break that lock is to knock out or kill the dog or get the dog to release it (usually by command on a trained dog or by causing extreme pain).
Shame of it is that the dog gets put down and the stupid irresponsible owner gets a slap on the wrist and told to take better care of his animals. These dogs are dangerous but I think all dogs are dangerous when not cared for or trained properly. Should start euthanising irresponsible owners......only take one or two and people will start to get the message. |

I agree with Rav or atleast have a licence system for listed dangerous dogs, where the person must have a reason for owning such. WHY do people keep buying these dogs?!
Pitbulls can be a very nice breed with a proper owner. The amount of times ive heard a pitbull owner say "It has never attacked anything before" or "It's usually such a gental dog" makes me to wonder how ignorant can someone be to purchase or home such a notorious animal last edited by BOHEMION at 10:14:37 19/Oct/09 |

Pitbulls can be a very nice breed with a proper owner. I'm sure the same could be said about tigers. You go to the zoo, the tigers and their handlers seem to get along well. Not about to let random members of the community keep tigers though. |

Pitbulls can be a very nice breed with a proper owner. I would argue a lot of the people who are attracted to a pit bull are the sort of people who would not be classed as a proper owner. |

The 'pitbulls can be a nice breed with proper training' is the worst argument evar. There's about 10000 other breeds of dog that are just as nice or nicer but don't kill and maim people regularly.
Wtf do people have to get dogs that are genetically prone to being hunter-killers? Get a normal dog ffs. |

Obes has it nailed there. I used to teach dog obedience and it was typically the same type of people who owned these dogs, never what I would call a dog lover and almost always at the lower end of the socio-economic scale. Often described as "Bogans", "Bevans" or "Westies" they tend to get these dogs and do some basic training with them, feed them supermarket dog food (this will cause all sorts of problems for dogs) and shut them out in the backyard to play with the kids.
Its a recipe for disaster. That said I one of the guys I used to train obedience with had a staffy and it was very well trained and cared for dog, it still went rogue and killed another dog. There really isn't a place for these dogs in our communities. |

You wouldn't own one because it's too much of a responsibility, may as well have a child because the pitbull is going to own your life from then on.

Any dog can snap, not any dog can latch onto your arm for 20 minutes and has to be killed to make it let go.

Cant see these types of dogs being Legal for much longer.
I think the solution is something like a Pool Fencing Law. Certified security fencing for the animals and regular visits to check them. Have no idea what is going on in the heads of parents with kids that have dogs like this. |

Wow. Apparently it has a 24 pack and can run up to 60 km/h. It's like a Terminator Dog, T24000
You wouldn't wanna be chased by one of them in a dark alley (even if you're in a car). |

There was a show on discovery last night which interviewed a woman in the US who has been attacked by a pitbull for over 25 minutes, her injuries were horrific, the owner couldnt even pull the pitbull off, only when the sherrif turned up and shot at it, did it let go. |

A friend had one, used the old "nahhh they're good dogs if they're treated and trained right by the right owner" line until his wife put a huge dent in a thick iron frying pan trying to knock it out as it was going nuts ripping their bluey to pieces right near their baby.
Their bluey was such a nice dog :( |
