Yeah saw this clip. If you're gonna make a ending-world-is-chasing-you scene make it at least slightly more tangible.

And no one even seems horrified. They're on the edge of their seats but s*** if that was happening i would be in horrific shock at the situation. Ahh its only the end of the Earth and all life as we know it, not a big deal.

Yeah I know but it would be really effective if they showed the possibilities of human emotion during such an event. If that was really happening I think most people would be scared out of their f***ing minds. Like biblical end of all human existence scared. Oh well. I'll still see it for the apocalypse-factor :P

the pilot didnt get to finish his flight check, therefore the plane didnt fly properly.

I was thinking the exact same thing, he took off from the airport, then for some reason he is having to dodge buildings, pretty sure an airport would be far enought away from sky scrapers even for a little plane to have cleared them.

Was just sitting there waiting for the scene of the plane suddenly being able to fly up realy fast, and it came right on queue after he flew between the 2 crashing buildings.

hollywood just pushes the 'omg they JUST escaped that!' scenario just a little too far imo. it loses all it's edge-of-the-seat impact coz you know they are gonna escape in a truely unbelievable set of circumstances. the scenes are still cool though coz, now detached from the plight of the main characters, i can watch all the detail of the cgi mayhem. all the little cars n people who were unlucky enough not to be an invincable main character & subsequently fall to thier deaths :P

That plane scene was just stupid. Why not get altitude as soon as you can, rather than diving back down into the streets. Sure maybe if it was Battlefield 2, but not when the world is ending. Gosh

If only Neill Blomkamp or the Cloverfield dude did this, it wouldn't full of cheesey badness.

The you-know-they're-obviously-going-to-escape-so-f***ing-get-it-over-and-done-with-already thing that "Hollywood" does is what makes these action flicks crap.

Well of course they're not horrified. Wouldn't want people to appear horrified on the 2012 Experience: The Ride at Disneyworld/Universal Studios/Dreamworld/whatever now would you?

I dunno. It looks horribly bad but I dunno if it's cheesy enough to become good.

Looks like a tops disaster movie, I mean, who really goes to see these movies expecting to see a good story or a realistic portrayal of how people would act at the end of the world? You go to see these movies to watch s*** get f***ed up!

I'm fully aware of this, but nothing I've seen of this movie has got me even remotely interested. I ended up skipping through that video in the OP after about 3 minutes because it seemed really generic and boring.

I was actually looking forward to this movie. The trailers made it look silly and far-fetched, but still fun and effects/eye-candy.

And then I saw this 5 minute clip. Holy f*** that's just ridiculous. It'd be okay if LA imploded not long after they left, but the fact that the street is collapsing 3 feet behind them... and then they drive through a building...
Sigh.

You're forgetting though, this is made by the guy who made the Day After Tomorrow, where the hero is chased accross the street and through the corridors of a library by cold air. I'm not sure exactly why your expectations for this were so high :P

Just saw this. There's lots of expected close-calls (I would say too many), but if you focus on the "end if the world" part, well... f***ing mind boggling! The scale of everything turnig to s*** was insane, CGI was amazing. The whole of continents are levelled right before your eyes. Ignore the Hollywood, definitely see it for the event.

Yeah, saw it on Thursday, I quite enjoyed it. Theres some ridiculously corny dialogue, and its pretty contrived, but who cares, I was just there to see s*** blow up and LOTS of s*** blows up quite impressively. As far as disaster movies go, its pretty damn awesome.

saw it at a preview screening at vmax, was so bad it was indeed awesome. Best of the bad ones, on the big big screen was great. I laughed so much it was fantastic.

I personally think John Cusack is a good actor, and the black guy from firefly, but the dialogue is so corny even they can't make it seem real, just comes out funny. Loved it.

The event? Incredibly well made and pretty jaw-dropping, really.
The actors? Coulda been better. John Cusack didn't really fit an end-of-the-world scenario, I think.
The dialogue? Not bad (given the actors), but definitely very corny.
The close calls?Yeah they woulda been dead within the first five minutes. Driving through the building? Yeah, rrright.

The main kickers for me were the Yellowstone explosion and pyroclastic effects at LA or Vegas (forget) and the overall mind boggling scale of the destruction, such as the wave coming in on the president and that Indian dude.

Yeah, the sense of scale was awesome, and yellowstone was prolly my favourite too, that was epic. Woody Harrelson as awesome as the crazy guy too.

The bit near the start where the president gathers all the world's leaders together and goes "Gentlemen, I have some bad news, the world is going to end" (or something to that effect) was so ridiculously corny. It was meant to be some serious moment with a lot of gravity and impact, but the cinema just cracked up laughing when I saw it.

But yeah, great popcorn flick, lots of fun, definitely recommended for the big screen.

Just finished watching it. It was touch and go right at the end and I didn't think John Cusack would make it. And then there were all the choppers flying around and people emerging with the dawn of a new day - just like The Day After Tomorrow.
