Yeah I know, there is 50,000 threads on this already, but this one is my thread :P No real budget concerns but I don't want to spend thousands if I don't have to. I need new everything, complete box, mouse KB, case, monitor etc My questions are Core Duo or even quad OR i7 CPU? Raptor or standard SATA (not interested in SSD)? I don't really play games (haven't for 3 years) but I bought TF2 when I was OS and it never played on my laptop for whatever reason, so I've never played it and I want to give that a lash. So essentially I need an up-to-date PC that can handle some modern games, but without 4 million frames per second... Ideally it'd be from MSY as there is a brand new one 10 mins from my parents place which is awesome :) This machine is simply a day to day desktop jobby and I'll be throwing together a file server in a few months time. Thanks! |

well.. do you just want the cheapest thing available? or something that won't be outdated in the next month?
If you call the guys at MSY and give them a budget they can find the best things for you. |

Yeah I'd go the i7 Heardy, the one with more pins (triple access bandwidth one). As for a mobo, dunno. Recommend ASUS though which were my last two boards which were tops - particularly my current Maximus Formula has been top notch. |

I am thinking of going the i7 920 over the i7 860
aside from the number of pins, memory bandwidth along with lower clock speed (2.666ghz vs 2.8ghz) are there any other major differences? |

It's more future-proof, because it can use triple channel memory. I have the 920, and it never gets close to full capacity.
