Hello, i know some people here have gone to work in the USA. I was curious as to how they found the experience of aquiring visa and or green card.

I am thinking of moving to the states in ~12 months time.

Keep in mind that legally living and working in the United States is not an easy thing to achieve - most of the visas require sponsorship from an established job offer. In such cases, the wait lists for Visas are snapped up very, very quickly.

There's a reason why Aussies work in the UK and Canada. The Commonwealth ties make it much easier.

That said, the experience is annoying, but ultimately rewarding once you hit the other side.

Nothing really to do with the commonwealth, its the bi-latteral agreement between 14* countries.

I think bestiality is illegal in most states, if not all, d0mino.

Is your main bitch a 17 yr old? if so i'd keep her away from persay. Apparently he likes to slam em at school during lunch break.

It's fricken awesome over here. I highly reccommend it. Visa can be a bitch, your best bet is to find a US company to employ you and get them to have Immigration Laywers do all the legwork. Even then it's a lot of work and hassle for you.

Probably the easiest way to do it, is to marry your bitch then you should get a visa nice and easy if she's a US citizen.

d0mino, your only grounds to live/work here with a US citizen as a partner is either:

1. Engagement - qualifies you for a K Visa, which in turn gives you 90 days to marry

2. Marry her - qualifies you for a work permit, and shortens the time to obtain a green card (typically 5 years)

You will need to show evidence of being a couple, and living together for several years.

The U.S.A sounds a bit scarey atm. Unemployment, crime, homelessness.

Buy a gun.

Yeah because you're going to buy a cheap house with your non existent job.

I guess that's when crime comes into it.

I have to go to the States for a month in January/February for the Global Exxon/Mobil GATE refinery project I'm currently writing the specs for downstream processing. Can't say I'm thrilled, not because it's the US but because it's their bloody winter and I hate the cold.

Anyone been to West Virginia, especially Roanoke? I hear it's mighty purty in them thar parts.

Roanoke is nice, but not at that time of year, you want to go in autumn. Will be at the end of next month when I go. I'll be passing by on my way from in-laws house near Baltimore, down the Blue Ridge Parkway to visit friends in Alabama, before going down to Florida to see the Nov 12th shuttle launch.

+1 for marrying an American. I got married in America, but I won't be going there to live any time soon. I haven't bothered applying for a green card. I'd like to, but I'm sure I won't get a decent job there anytime soon.

Getting a work visa any other way is a major PITA, and due to their low quotas, will be even more difficult.

If you wanted to stay permanently then I reckon via your employer would be the only way to go.

Unless I was getting married or something I would never consider transplanting unless there was a job and some security behind it.

While there are s***loads of illegals here you don't want to live that way
