hi all.

tired of OPTUS 400ms pings to games.on.net AA #1 (AUS), i've decided to start an Alien Arena server in brisbane.

does anybody know of good servers? (in Brisbane?) like switched on gamers to deal with rather than OPTUS etc

thanks all,
mal.

you want to host a server (physical box) or you want to run your daemon on a server?

not the full box,

just want someone to run Alien Arena as a server for me.

lots of ISP's offer hosting, but i'm wanting switched on people, not OPTUS or Telstra, but small, smart, fast people etc.

any good hosting people in brisbane?

I can vouch for the guys that run the BigPond GameArena rental servers. They are as "switched on" as you're gonna get with game server rentals.

If it makes any difference, they're not "Telstra", but a small, smart and fast private contractor that also happens to be the same crew responsible for AusGamers as well.

Get a better ISP? I'm on telstra & my pings to internode servers are 30-80ms depending on which one I'm on and the time of the day.

so you're in toowoomba, connecting to an Adelaide server

no wonder you have a 400 ping.

hmm...

no wonder you want your own. can't you just run it from home or a mate's place?

I just tried a server in america & got a ping of 240, I don't think it'd be unreasonable to expect pings below 200 for an aussie server no matter where it is. I used to play on a WA server in cod4 and I'm pretty sure my ping was rarely over 100 and I live in Bris.

no wonder you want your own. can't you just run it from home or a mate's place?

I don't think you realise how much upstream bandwidth he'd need.

"respond in a meaningful manner" is very offensive to me.

see, you are either a muppet, (one blessed with no brain) or part of the team (have pentangles, skulls, and burning candles on your desk). either way, it's offensive.

having worked for telstra before,
(extortion department - threatening crying old age pensioners who owed thousands of dollars for the first month internet with legal action because they signed up for FREE! trials etc (telstra software did it)

i'd rather gnaw my own leg clean orf than urinate on telstra if they were on fire.

(
did marketing at uni. Telstra made it into the course as THE prime example of clever. Telstra used to be called Telecom. they commissioned a survey. people hated them so much it was bizarre. would have cost billions to fix their act up and get people to love them. (stop overbilling, stop the run around treatment etc etc)

instead, turned out much cheaper to just change their name.

brilliant idea.

see, if a person called bob knees you in the balls and steals your wallet you won't like him.

but if he gets plastic surgery and calls himself dave you'll shake his hand.

so,

trog
"why is he so bitter and twisted towards us"

familiarity?

greazy, ara, get a room guys

thanks koopz

"run it from home or a mate's place? "

best advice yet.

Wow, you have no idea you rabbid raging f*****. Mammoth are a contractor of Bigpond/Telstra and are not Telstra/Bigpond.

Thanks to people like trog, this gaming forum is still here after many years. If you were here for many of these years, you would learn that typo was an exadmin type who held a grudge against all the admins on this forum for reasons unknown.

Take your panties out of a bunch and get the f*** over it.

I worked for telstra, they weren't that bad
I think the problem is you worked for telstra and you got paid f*** all

I hated and still hate telstra as far as an isp goes, but as far as employment goes they are one of the only companies in Australia that pay 6 figure salaries to someone in my line of work - so they're A-OK in my book

I'd never buy anything that they're selling, though

Wow, he comes in asking for help and then flames the s*** out of us all?

P.s. since you hate telstra so much, it might interest you to know I'm on telstra cable and in the AA server browser built into the game I get a ping of 45 to that internode server so I guess me & telstra will have the last laugh at you s***ty optus boy ho ho ho

pretty sure that telecom changed to telstra because ndc (network design & construction) were splitting off... so telecom became telstra & ndc. it wasn't coz a survey said everyone hated telecom. :P but i guess that's kinda a moot point in view of your total comprehension fail.

I like the bit where trog replied to typo but Mal thought it was to him and then flamed trog and then a bunch of other guys.

Thread lost marks due to incorrect quoting by Mal, however quoting system can be difficult to master if you are new to the forum. Taking this into consideration I raised my initial thread rating from 8.0 to 8.5.

Thread Rating: 8.5/10

i wouldn't, I did that once and we used 60gb in < 3 weeks because I completely forgot about the server once i'd finished playing on it

I can't remember exact details but I think it was a single CSS server with 16 players :|

But due to the embarrassment, the OP will probably never actually read that and will remain uninformed of that availability forever.
