I should be getting my copy today. As for improvements, a lot of it is under the hood. Some people have even reported getting back up to 10gb of HDD space (Apple claims about 6gb).

I'm waiting for my SL up-to-date order to ship from the apple store. $15 is a bargain!

I'm running it here, it's okay - few bugs but they're probably more related to my workplace than what I actually do.

Right click menu on the taskbar is a nice touch - also smb/afp mounts inside of browsers will now try to connect when you click on them - rad.

apart from that, yeah, its okay! MacMail is a lot faster (very similar to the version on the iPhone)

Doesn't seem *that* much faster overall.

Agreed with right click menu looking cool.

After applemail's database got optimized it did seem a touch faster.

For the Mac users:

With Windows, all the shortcut keys for menus are underlined (eg. to get to "Edit" menu, press Alt + E). In Apple these shortcuts aren't made obvious... is there are simple way of working out how to use the keyboard to get through menus?

I haven't installed the retail 10.6 yet, but have had the wwdc build running since the keynote and overall it works pretty well. For apple developer connection members, the retail disk image is there and available for download (build numbers match up).

CTRL+F2 will let you keyboard through the menu, but its easier to just look on the right of the menu options and remember the specific shortcut. If there are items that don't have a shortcut, you can set it in system prefs.

Just finished installing and I got back just over 11GB of disk space. Not too shabby.

Finder is nice and snappy now. So is Mail.app. Safari looks pretty quick too.

Sucks that they've removed the Pro features from Quicktime. I actually used those. :(

Oh wait, just found Quicktime 7... sweet :)

Yeah you can install QT7 Pro on too, not sure how they live together though. I'll be happy with QTX features though. Never used Pro. 11GB back is awesome.

QT7 gets installed into the Applications/Utilities folder, so I'd imagine they should live together ok. I have both running at once right now without any issues.

What do you install it off by the way? Cause Snow Leopard has a newer version than the iPhone SDK doesn't it?

By the way, how does this Menlo font fare?

XCode is on the install disc under Optional Installs or something. Not sure what version it has vs the iPhone SDK. I just need make, gcc, etc for some work stuff.

Its laggy on my Mac mini, though I havent restarted once yet. Hope it doesn't stay like this.

Mainly to do with animations, they seem to be at a lower frame rate, as opposed to Leopard which was smooth as anything.

Has your Mac Mini finished indexing its hard drives? Your Spotlight icon will have a dot in the middle of the icon if it is. My MacBook Pro became a lot snappier after this :)

Yeah its all finished. Its less laggy, but the animations are still not quite as smooth as Leopard. I'll reboot and see how it goes (still first boot).

its like the difference between smooth 30fps video and 24fps film. The problem is that I notice it...

I have a feeling my Snow Leopard is getting smoother and smoother as I use it. Its now quite responsive (close to what Leopard was like).

Your Apple fanboyism is allowing you to progressively ignore the issues, by next week you'll be saying the 24fps animations are actually value adding. Joking but not really.

Its simply more responsive. First of all, indexing was mashing my hard drive for a while. There's probably a lot of caches that were cleaned out during the install and whatnot too.

I upgraded to snow leopard last night and apparently the install failed. My macbook booted into some weird diagnostic environment and had a bit of a teary. I freaked out and rebooted it and it came back up and booted into 10.6 just fine.

It was a bit weird, but meh.

It's a bit quicker I guess. I'll take some time on the weekend and do a fresh install and see if there's much of an improvement.

Don't think you get as much space back as you think. SL now uses 1000MB to a GB instead of 1024MB so that would misrepresent the difference in free space now (in addition to the ~6Gb Apple says you will get back).

Has anyone tried Mail + Exchange2007 yet and want to report back on how it interacts?
