I get no threads a lot of the time I look at this forum. Maybe I'm being throttled for looking at the forum too much.

Surely you know we're happy to help you fix it, its just that it's not possible to help anyone fix anything with such a vague description - we have a server connected to zillions of other complicated devices by strung-out pieces of copper with some insulating plastic wrapped around them, occasionally interspersed by pieces of shiny transparent glass tubes through which photos shoot - this is before it even gets to the hugely complicated slab of metal and plastic and silicon and gold and aluminium and lead before all those zeros and ones are translated into something that can shoot out of your screen into your eyeballs.

Not even counting user error, which is by far the most common sort of error, there's about forfty billion things that can go wrong, and without at least some direction to look in, I have no idea what to tell you.

I'm not abusing you, I'm just expressing frustration that it's 2009 and people still type "It doesn't work" into a computer and expect meaningful results to come out of the other end. It's like being back in 2006 or something.

I'm just a member of the site trying to be helpful by making you aware of a problem. I'm not here asking for you to do something for me. Every single day I address bugs reported by members of the public, and there is no 'rule number one' like you said.

Let's play a game - who can guess the URL I was looking at based on what I said? Hint: starts with qgl. and ends with .com and is an ausforums website.

As you can see there is no way to create a thread or to find a thread. Which made creating this thread and getting back to it a real pain in the ass.

Well I figured maybe this is the case, I just called everyone a f***** for liking HL2 in another thread, maybe someone switched on some 'make users life difficult' thing on my account.

It's not consistent, sometimes I do see a listing, so that would add to the frustration of such a user punishment feature.

oh that bug

yeh that is some stupid bug in our forum software that crops up randomly (some function gets double-declared somehow on random page loads, it is totally f***ing weird)

we have a plan to move that site to a new server which I'll try and see if I can expedite in the hope that it fixes it

I can't say I've ever seen that bug and I've been reading qgl.org for like 8 years or something.

Sounds like a fun one to try and fix :) ... coding bugs that are hard to replicate consistanly are never fun.

the same forum is available in at least one other site/system, eg: http://www.ausgamers.com/forums/general/index.php

it's pulled out of a content system and formatted individually by the receiving site, thus it's important (as it _always_ is when diagnosing website issues) to know exactly what URL you were attempting to access at the time

seriously who couldn't have a good guess at precisely what I was talking about, especially considering it was a known issue :/
I'm the one enduring the bug, I should be allowed to be confused and clueless.

It's like when you don't understand something when you're little and someone goes 'why don't you understand?' that question just blows your god damn mind because you are in no position to be philosophising about your own lack of cognition.

I've seen the bug myself, and seen it reported, but I had no idea what you were on about. Your bug report was vague and sucked!

But your ongoing reaction to a simple request for more information continues to be spectacular. Rage on dude. \'''/

hmm, if its the error I'm thinking of, I can only see it happening 4 times in total to anyone since 7am this morning. So maybe you have some new weird error.

Next time it happens can you 'view source' and save the source as a .html file somewhere so I can check it out ?

Whats funny is that you claim to get bug reports from users all the time so you should know better and provide every single f***ing detail, but you revert to one of your clueless users and just go "Duuuhhhh my computer is teh broken" and look like an idiot.

Eds, I said exactly what I saw. The problem is so obvious and frequent to me that I expected it be well known enough not to have to explain details that seemed to make no difference, as the thread listing did not work regardless of which forum link I clicked, or whether I just went to the home page the way I do when I first come to the site. If I tell you I see no threads, it is not like there are 10 billion places I could be trying to look.

Here is a paste of the problem page http://pastebin.com/m1e3e672f

In this particular case the URL was http://qgl.ausforums.com/index.php/439207/? but if I change that crap on the end it makes no difference!

Wow, that's really odd. When I get capped (bpa cable) QGL forums are the ONLY site I can load. Google's front page loads but results? Nope. SA is out of the question, OCAU loads if I refresh it a few times.

So you guys know if I start posting on qgl more than usual, it's probably because I'm capped :)

To add input I suppose, The only time I've ever seen anything remotely close to what thermite posted in the screenshot is when you'd log in and get a similar page. Other than that, a few times I've seen some silly white page with an error about not being able to re-declare some variable but a refresh clears that up.

+1 for using IE8
+1 for bookmarking WWTDD
-1 for bookmarking news.com.au
-1 for uTorrent when newsgroup is the future (and past)

Otherwise I'd say that's a good screenshot.

nah I didn't make a change before, the thing I thought it might be was already at a suitable setting. but I have made a change now!
basically I've made it so the cms can gobble about 6 times as much ram as it could before, which I think is an excellent solution to the problem
