Topic: Naked Internet pricing - WTF?

I am confused about the pricing of naked internet. For example, a non-naked 25 Gb plan with internode is $60/month. Then add about $30 for a phone with telstra. Total = 90/month.

So I figure I can save $30 a month and get naked ADSL and only use a mobile phone. I look at the pricing of the naked plan and see the it is $90/month. WTF, this makes getting naked ADSL totally redundant. I dont want voip and all that s***. I just dont want to pay line rental.

Please explain why they have priced it like this.

As someone who's about to have ADSL2+ connected at their new place (and am currently shopping around), I have no f***ing idea, but am equally bemused.

iiNet

Naked Home 3 ($69.95)
15GB + 20GB

ADSL home 2 ($39.95 + $30 Line rental)
1GB + 1GB

If you bundle voip with the adsl you get 2+2.
The naked plan comes with free voip + free local/national calls.

Where are you getting your Internode prices?
Home-Extreme-Value $59.95
Home-NakedExtreme-25 $69.95
Maybe I'm blind, but $10 extra seems cheaper than paying line rental.

Internode - Naked Extreme ADSL2+ 25G = $70

Where are you getting $90 for 25G for internode?

EDIT: Beaten like a QGL'ers misbehaving kid.

If you are going for budget you'd get TPG naked?

Yeah, it is a little cheaper, but not the whole line rental amount. They still have to pay Telstra an amount for the line, just not as much.

Watch out for some ISP's naked plans too, iinet for instance meters uploads on their naked plans, but not on they regular ones.

I am kinda looking for something around the $60 mark that has voip and will give me a number that can be accessed by the regular telephone service. Was thinking Internode 25G plan for $70. They seemed pretty good the last time I used them.

I didn't want to connect the phone
Fixed
Anyway, it asks for a phone number only to check what services are available on the local exchange. Get a phone number from a neighbour or local business.

I'm guessing all naked ADSL still needs a phone number to connect to. I would still save on line rental down the track anyway.

Edit: Yeah, I will get the phone number from Telstra with out getting it connected.

I'm paying 79.95/mth for iiNet Naked DSL2 with 30+30Gb. Free VoIP calls local & national so it's all around a pretty decent deal. I can call my folks at home and talk for hours and not get charged a cent!

Didn't need a phone number to sign up either, just gave them the address.

well like i said EXETEL IS BY FAR THE BEST VALUE!!!

$55/mth = 12/60gb + 100 free voip calls (untimed) + 30 sms

no number needed, 6mth contract, and its pretty much on any exchange in bris.

Maybe for you its the best value but for me its not. Internode has a superior network, better quality, I can access my quota whenever I want and it doesnt count uploads

Now STFU

Does Exetel have a f***ton of gaming servers, a huge massive mirror service, and free premium Usenet access?

I just moved house and am now with Internode (previously with iiNet) because that was all that was available.

Pro-tip: if you want Naked the easiest option BY FAR is to connect your landline with Telstra then get Naked. As part of the service your ISP disconnects your landline with Telstra. It costs you probably $60-90 extra to do it like that, but try it the other way and see how far you get with the ISP!!

I am rapt with Naked with Internode. Also for consideration, Internode don't count upload data towards your quota on Naked plans like other ISPs do (iiNet do anyway).

I save roughly $40 per month with Naked compared to ADSL2+ and a Telstra landline.

I'd swap to Internode in a heartbeat for these things, if it weren't for their quotas. :(

Quality because Internode OWN their network and are not a 100% reseller. As trog mentioned, huge file mirrors, game servers and news servers, their streaming radio is awesome as well, not to mention their support turn around and sales people.

Come back when you have something worthy to talk about. OH, and do some research. Internode has been either number 1 or number 2 on the ISP list for the past 3 - 4 years at least.

lol, exetel. If it works for you great, but dont bring your preachy s*** in here and expect everyone to agree with you.

I didn't even move into the house before I put the order in but iiNet still processed it. Just gave them the house address and off they went.. did take a bit longer (the 10 days they said it would).

Do you remember the thread where I was canvassing my options? About May 15th ish. On your advice I tried to do exactly as you described here and Internode told me it would interfere with the existing occupants service and they were unable to schedule it either. I had to ring up on the day I moved in.

FTR, I am on Optus DSLAM resold by Internode. One of the ones where you cannot select 'Thrillseaker' and all that sort of stuff. It's reliable as hell, haven't dropped once. A trade-off for brute speed most likely though - but I get 5x faster than my previous house since I was 5km from the exchange before, so I'm easily pleased!

And with both iiNet and Internode it took 2˝ weeks to get a connection provisioned for ADSL2+.

I'm with nodes 40gig naked service and its hard to fault. Saving me about ~$40 a month to my previous setup of telstra cable + landline (a quota upgrade from 20gig to 40gig as well).

2 weeks ago i had a fault on my line, I rang up told them about it and it was fixed in 2 working days.

Their mirrors are better than Bigpond. Gaming servers are extensive. Free steam content as long as its dl'ed in australia. But most importantly they don't count uploads! That in itself is worth 5+gigs a month. oh and free content from abc's iView which is nice and if you play wow another saving of $10 a month with their tunneling service.

When you compare it to iinet, they aren't that great bang for buck because most of their value is offpeak quota which is pretty annoying.

2cents

sure they are cheap but in terms of speed they are very very average.

I have exetel adsl2+ (optus dslam) at home and the internode adsl1 service at the office is far snappier to browse with.

exetel is good for general net use and leeching... internode for performance

I have a cable service with no landline and just connected iinet ADSL with no problems. I gave them the last number we had before we disconnected the phone a year or so ago.

Is it true that it would cost ~$300 for Telstra to install a land line even for naked dsl? We moved into a unit about 2 years ago and have used bigpond cable ever since, but never had a land line installed (unit was brand new).

I am interested in a naked node adsl2 plan but the only thing stopping me is the setup costs.

I've gone with Exetel because of price and quota, not performance and service.

If cost wasn't an issue I'd go Internode any day of the week. Anono has a point in the fact that Exetel give VOIP, Naked, ~70+ GB quota (albeit on- and off-peak separated = annoying) and are very cheap.

Everyone else is right with Internode; performance, customer service (if needed) and mirrors/servers/usenet. You just pay for the extras. Being a broke uni student, I went with Exetel to pay $50 a month for Naked ADSL2+, VOIP and 72 GB of quota.

Yeah this is how much it costs for a tech to come out and install a landline. For the $300 you might be saving a lot more buy going someone else.
