Hey, everyone. I`m an English teacher in Brazil and I`d like to make my students be exposed to the English language while they play and have fun! Do you have suggestions of games that could be played for like 15/20 minutes? Any console will do.... thanks a lot ;) |

In all seriousness, i'd suggest an RPG like Mass Effect. Not only is it an incredibly well-written story and a downright fun game, but your students will have to read and comprehend the dialogue choices they make as they'll affect the path that the story takes.

where in the world is carmen sandiego Absolutely concur. Get on it nenene! This was the first 'game' (other than lander on Amiga, and the LOGO turtle) that I played at school. It was installed on the only Apple Mac IIe in the library, and every kid wanted to play it. Also, nenene, out of curiosity are you a native British speaker or American? (Or Brazilian). Do you teach the Oxford accent or American? Having learned Japanese at school then German self-taught, the best way that helped me learn German reading quickly was to buy 'mirrored' books. One page is in German, the other page is in English. Short stories are the way to go, not novels or novellas. Mirrored books are pretty tough to come by unfortunately. Ok, that doesn't help your listening/speaking skills though. Listening just watch TV and radio. Do really context driven programs like the news, sports shows, etc. News can be a bit tough because you only learn past tense. Sports is good for present tense. Also, early on in German I really enjoyed watching children's TV shows as well. It's kind of fun and silly to watch as a mature adult - might work well in a adolescent classroom situation. Ultimately your students need to learn slang too - but of course, you don't want to be teaching that. I picked up most German slang in German online forums and IRC. |
