I hope it's less like BH&R, and more like Showbiz / Origins of Symmetry. |

Any reason why it was produced in Italy? Definitely an album I'll be looking forward to this year. |

That was me actually. But now I'm addicted to Absolution. I was so used to the in your face drums on BH&R that Absolution sounded weak.
BH&R for me is just as good as Absolution, as its a completely different style. Origins has some awesome tracks on it but some of them are not too special (or I haven't given them enough time). |

Micro Cuts is my fave track, especially live.
Word on the street is that this album will contain an epic symphonic song in three movements that Matt has been working on since Origin of Symmetry. The first song title is "United States of Eurasia" :D |

I can't pin down any single favourite, but I'd say Map of the Problematique / Soldier's Poem / Starlight on BH&R, Sing for Absolution / Stockholm Syndrome on Absolution and Bliss / Plug In Baby on Origins.

Yeah, Muse are bril. I remember in the early days they were compared too much to Radiohead, but I don't see it. Yeah, the vocal range is similar to Thom Yorke, but the styles are incredibly different. Radiohead are so diverse themselves that the only thing similar in each track is the vocal range anyway. So comparing the two just seems pointless to me, anyway. My fave Muse track is Uno. +1, looking forward to it. |

Knights of Cydonia is still an epically wicked song, never get tired of it.

There is one particular muse song (cant think of which one) that sounds like it could be on radioheads ok computer album, but apart from that they pretty different bands.
Muse are one of the very few exceptions to my "no good new bands from the 2000's" rule. |

Also, I've never ever heard Radiohead so I'm none the wiser :) dude. I'm not even a massive radiohead song but they have some absolute classics. You must have heard some of their stuff before. stop stroking your iphone and get amongst it: Creep / Paranoid Android / Jigsaw Falling Into Place |

I probably have but wouldn't know until someone played them.
Creep is one I've heard. I just had a quick listen to some on itunes and yeah can definitely hear the resemblance but Muse probably have a more "epic" and more effects based sound. last edited by 3dee at 10:14:50 23/Jun/09 |

I was so used to the in your face drums on BH&R that Absolution sounded weak. to me, theres a lot more dynamic between piano and guitar/band on absolution which may require some space drum wise. my fave track is 'showbiz'. but thats just how im feeling today. as for radiohead. for me, they sit mood wise, inbetween jeff buckley and muse. grab a copy of o.k computer, and then kick yourself for not getting into them sooner !!!! |

Yeah, Absolution is all about the piano, Butterflies and Hurricanes ftw. I dunno if I could pick a stand-out favourite album though, I've been listening to a lot of BH&R lately but thats just cos that was what I was in the mood for, I listen to them all and they're all awesome, though Origin of Symmetry is probably the one I listen to the least (except it has their cover of Feeling Good on it, and thats f***ing awesome, so it still gets put in regular rotation on my playlist).

My really badly described ideas about the albums
Absolution is for thinking about apocalypses and fear and loss and stuff. BH&R is about politics and war and love and loss and stuff. Origins is about, I dunno. I just know there's some kickass tunes on it (I like everything up to Citizen Erased and also Feeling Good). |

Muse isn't too bad, even if their first three albums were almost identical. I agree that there's absolutely no comparison to Radiohead though... Muse are much more formulaic. I do give them credit for having a very big sound for a three piece though and Bellamy in particular is very talented.

On topic: iTunes says its out on the 12th, so I hit the Pre-order button :D I've listened to the previews and I'm pretty sure (given raving [pre]-reviews) this album is gonna be really freakin sweet. Hopefully the 12th iTunes release sticks last edited by 3dee at 20:52:07 07/Sep/09 |

muse is the new u2 imo Not sure if you mean that in a good way or a bad way.
WP says the release is 11th for Italy/Germany, 12th for Australia, and the 14th came from Europe - so it should stick. Sif buy on iTunes though, CD/lossless quality FTW! Couldn't resist listening to the preview, really excited, especially for the symphony. |

their first three albums were almost identical They're completely different.. one's alternative and bright, one's deep meaningful and sombre, one's sci fi and political, this one just sounds epic. |

Yeah, couldn't disagree with that statement about them being identical more. Have you actually listened to them? Assuming you were referring to Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution... they are really different.

So if I was going to start with a Muse album, what album would be recommended to start with? I loved the song Plugin Baby when it first came out in 2001 or whenever it was but never really listened to them much after that, I've actually been listening to Plugin Baby again a bit recently and keen a listen to more from them.

Absolution is probably the most mainstream, then BHaR. Origin of Symmetry is IMO the best, but it's pretty weird.
Also, BBC Radio 1 has been playing snippets of new songs along with interviews with the band. You can download them here: http://antoineauberger.fr/resistance/ last edited by XandraX at 09:21:16 08/Sep/09 |

Whats the point of pre-ordering online digital downloads? Are you scared they're going to run out of bandwidth? Is this directed at me? I mentioned that its 2 vinyls, the CD and a USB flash drive with multiple copies of the album on it in different formats (WAV + MP3 + AIFF). |

I loved the song Plugin Baby when it first came out in 2001 or whenever it was but never really listened to them much after that, I've actually been listening to Plugin Baby again a bit recently and keen a listen to more from them. i suggest, getting all there albums and putting them on random, and finding the sweet stuff for yourself. muse have a fair amount of diferent styled songs. the tender ballad, the riffy rocker, the electro rocker, the epic song, to name a few. plus muse grows on you with repeated listens. citizen erased is a good song from the same album plugin baby is off (origin of symmetry). but yeah, id randomise. i love all there stuff but. they could record themselves masturbating each other whilst cooking babies in microwaves, and id still say 'best record ever' !!!!!! |

Undisclosed Desires, Resistance, MK Ultra and Exogenesis are exceptionally good. They better tour here soon! Maybe they will do BDO + sideshows. |

Yeah, I completely agree with that point. Usually after I listen to a new album, I will jump to specific tracks that I liked on the next listen. But this one, not skipping anything at all.

Unnatural Selection is a monster track, I can see it doing very well like Knights of Cydonia, even though it's 7 minutes long.
I Belong To You was a pleasant surprise. From the 30 second preview I really didn't like it, but the French section is like something out of The Sound of Music. Resistance is also awesome, and is almost certainly about Winston and Julia from 1984, where they meet for canoodling in the countryside. Notice that the intro and outro are actually from Citizen Erased. The only weak song is Guiding Light, which just seems to go nowhere. |

See the only problem with this album is that nothing else in my library will inspire me more so I can expect to have this on all the time (especially Exogenesis)...
I seem to irritate people by being ridiculously single-minded when it comes to the music I listen (which is one band at a time and now its muse 100%). Im sorry if no other band in my library comes close to the magic of Muse :-P Being an ambitious musician myself doesn't help! Ahh well |

Couldn't get to sleep last night, the new songs were stuck in my head. I think my mind was exploding from listening to Exogenesis in the dark right before I went to bed with my eyes closed. There was more grand romantic emotion coursing through my mind than I've ever experienced. Sounds a bit nuts but its true. |

Maybe I just need to listen to this album more, cos I've only listened to it once or twice so far, but I dunno, it didn't blow me away. It started off really awesome and I really liked the first half of it but then it just seemed to lose all its energy and it never came back with the big finish I was expecting.

Lewd advises that the entire album will be played on JJJ at midday.
It also appears to be available for streaming from the website. |

Listening now, I'll give it a few more tries but on first impressions
united states of eurasia track I'm not impressed, yeah it sounds a bit queenish but the lyrics are just clumsy, they don't match up to the music and it seems like he's trying to cram the words into music that doesn't fit. guiding light starts off with an 80s vibe, but turns into U2, who I loathe so fail there |

listened to the album stream
didn't mind it generally... then flicked on citizen erased a few minutes later and decided its a big case of i like your old stuff better than your new stuff. Won't give up on it unless I suffer from the overplaying of 1-2 tracks on radio though |

Hey, I'm no hater, when I was listening to it I was absolutely loving the first half of the album, almost instantly pushing it to the top of my "f*** this is one of the best albums I've ever listened to" list, it totally had me, I was loving every song. But then it just started slowing down and going downhill and at first I thought "thats ok, this is just the lull before the storm, it'll rise back up into some huge Knights of Cydonia style ending", but no, it just stayed down, and by the end of the album I was feeling rather lukewarm towards it.
Its just so huge and grand and epic and so full of energy and passion and conviction at the start, but then it just feels to me like it loses all that towards the end and just dribbles out into nothing. |

I listened to half of it on TripleJ today and while I liked parts of songs, on the whole I feel its a bit of a letdown. Too much queen wannabe moments and electronica influence for me personally. Its strange seeing the reactions tho, as usual most fanboys are giving it 'album of the century' status but on the flipside there are a lot of hardcore fans who are really disappointed with it

Metalheads won't like it, people who like classical and rock music will love it, and people who just like pop or rock music might find it a bit weird.
They've reached the stage where they don't need to sell albums, and they produced the album by themselves, so they were able to make whatever they wanted instead of being pressured to make everything radio friendly (which I think Absolution suffered from). |

Muse has never been good....their music f***ing blows and unfortunately for them their songs all sound the same. Its cool though, its a big bandwagon lucky for you fat geek c***s. Enjoy the ride till the next 'i like this band and im cool' comes along then you can all post 5 pages of jizz soup to slurp on.

Muse has never been good....their music f***ing blows and unfortunately for them their songs all sound the same. Some of their songs are similar, but there is a definite progression through all their albums as their style develops. Something a lot of other rock bands lack. You listen to a Muse song, you can tell exactly what time it came from. You listen to a Foo Fighters song (just an example, not particular hatin' on them), NFI where it came from. |

I've just had my initial play through.
Thoughts. Started strong with the single (Uprising). I like this song, reminds me lots of something that would have fit straight into Black Holes and Revelations (which I think is a decent album that has a few week songs near the end). 2nd track - Resistance - The intro reminded me of a song off the Donkey Kong Super NES games. The song is pretty decent, very "produced" sound with some layered vocals though you could tell with the previous album that's the way they're going into this album. I like it. Track 3. Holy s*** what is with the intro. Am I listening to Nelly or Usher! I really liked the electronica of Map of the Problematique on BH&R, this is another level. It would be interesting to see live. The chorus and that is pretty catchy, it's okay.. will probably be another single. United States of Eurasia. This is the first track that was pieced together on the internet leading up to the single release. It's okay, has some nods to Queen with more layered vocals. Bellamy owns on the piano on the end of this track with a segway into track 4 using a Jet flyby. Track 5. Some shredding guitar, sounds a bit like U2 actually but not really liking this one. Track 6. A better track with some good guitar riffs and a good finish. Here's a live vid of it which looks pretty sweet MK Ultra (Track 7) is interesting, it has some funny synth and vocals layered into it. It might grow on me. The last 4 tracks are heavily piano, some decent stuff in here but this is totally new Muse. There is even quite a bit of Bass Clarinet in here. It's nothing like the shredding in Butterflies and Hurricanes with the awesome piano interlude though. ------ Like most things it should grow on me but it seemed to be lacking in Matt Bellamy absolutely f***ing shredding like in the older albums. His piano was more the focus here. |

The last 4 tracks are heavily piano, some decent stuff in here but this is totally new Muse. The last three tracks are a symphony that Matt's been writing for some years but never had the right situation to actually do it. At first its a little hit and miss, but only after a few runs through the album, I'm now really enjoying every song (maybe Guiding Light a little less though). |

ok peoples after a few listens USoE is still the best song imo, however the electro wvrooo wvrooo in MK ultra makes it close,. EXO genesis rockes peaking in part 2. Unnatural selection is good but a bit too long. Uprising is definitely the commercial hit but can't say it's better than their previous albums though (undisclosed desires is fail)

It's a little similar... I noticed it as well. Not as blatant as something like Coldplay / Joe Satriani though. |

New porcupine tree is good, but it's nothing compared to fear of a blank planet. It's alot softer.
