Australian adult website Abby Winters raided
June 16, 2009 – 7:55 pm

G Media, the Australian company behind one of the web’s most popular adult websites, AbbyWinters.com, has been raided by Victoria police and it’s owner arrested. No charges have been laid.

According to The Herald Sun, computers containing footage of women allegedly performing explicit sex acts were seized by police because they are ‘illegal to produce in Victoria’. Under section 24 of the Victorian Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) (Enforcement) Act 199, a person must not, for the purpose of gain, make or produce an objectionable film.

What’s an objectionable film in Victoria?

Well that probably comes down to individual opinion more than anything, but the Act defines it as one that:

1. describes, depicts, expresses or otherwise deals with matters of sex,
drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or
abhorrent phenomena in a manner that is likely to cause offence to a
reasonable adult; or
2. promotes, incites or instructs in matters of crime or violence; or
3. is classified RC or X 18+ or would, if classified, be classified RC or
X 18+ or has been, or would be, refused approval, as the case
requires

Determining whether any of the content on Abby Winters is is objectionable will require lengthy review.

This has the potential to be an interesting case. It looks like they will pretty much get stuck on point 3 I reckon- not being able to produce RC or X18+ material in VIC.

The other issue (as reported in the 'somebodythinkofthechildren' article) is that some of the models may have been underage - most would agree that is a much more serious allegation.

If they were stupid enough to use under 18 people then serves them right for not being more stringent in their background checks (ie verifying their ID/age and ensuring ID's aren't fake) before they cast them. They deserve what they get...

Otherwise, who cares - apart from prudes, morally righteous and those legally obliged with to do something about it when duly informed as our laws don't oblige creation of media where it might be viewed by some person who can think for themselves and isn't offended by the content they choose to watch.

I don't always like some of the stuff I inevitably see here and there (some s*** just makes me want to scratch my eyes out) however, when it's between consenting adults (and I mean consenting, not intimidated, bullied etc), I really can't object as to what they do and neither should anyone else be allowed to. They do have the option of not watching nor permitting it to be viewed in their house/s.

Is it legal to make X rated films anywhere in Australia?

Pretty good use of police resources, not like there is anything else going on in vic... like gang killings or anything.

I'll admit I've seen some of their stuff and it's all pretty tame s***, even the more 'hardcore' scenes are really fkn timid, you'd almost compare them to movie sex scenes except you can see a bit of vagoo.

Some of their Lesbian stuff would be classed as hardcore, along with some of the solo shoots that feature a bit of light watersport action (ie. chick pissing on the ground, nothing more).. Sad part is that if they have indeed made these in AU, the owner's more than likely f***ed.

A job came up at AbbyWinters last year for an IT manager.. I was so tempted to apply for it regardless of the pay, just think of the issues:

"Hi we need help replacing the batteries on our camera, please come down to the shoot"

"Hi something is wrong with the computer we use to publish the pictures, please check all files on the computer for corrpution"

Surely that new Shaun Micallef show on channel ten falls under this criteria?
Cruelty to the audience, revolting and abhorrent, and causing offense...

I am the "former nude model", Liandra Dahl, that The Herald Sun has misquoted on 16th June 2009. I explicitly deny any involvement with this most recent article and allegations by the Herald Scum...I mean Herald Sun. I made no comment about the allegations, in fact I knew nothing of them or the raids until my mother called me yesterday to say I was in the paper again. Whilst I, of course, would find it reprehensible IF underage models were ever used, I am ardently anti-censorship. I want no part in a campaign against the production of porn in Victoria. I do not want to be associated in any way with a puritanical witch hunt about what sexually explicit images the The Herald Sun thinks it is OK for consenting adults to perform or watch. For that matter what business is it of the Victorian Government if consenting adults want to have sex with each other in whatever orifice they see fit, or in whatever fashion pleases them, and then put it on the internet for other adults to see. We are not the government’s children and it is not their place to make these sorts of moral judgements about what consenting adults do sexually. If someone doesn't like it, THEY DON"T HAVE TO LOOK AT IT! I also reckon it's a safe bet that a good portion of the Herald Sun readers are already avid viewers of porn anyway.

IN FACT I THINK IT'S TIME FOR AN ANTI-CENSORSHIP RALLY IN MELBOURNE....Is anyone with me?

Censorship is much like the War on Drugs.
It doesnt work and criminalizes consenting victimless adult behavior.
Legalize all forms of Adult Pornography.
As long as the Legal requirements of Age are met then who is getting hurt ?

Yeah, why is that? For what reason should porn be legislated by the state rather than on a national level.

Also, Liandra (if you are not a QGL troll), what is the tattoo on right arm above the armband one?

Well, the actor/actress is often seen as a victim in many cases. They can be (but of course not always, and maybe even a minority) an addict, jobless, and so on. Need money, turn to quick way to get it. And then, like drugs, there is a lot of money to be made in pornography, which makes your shady types consider sex trafficking and other modern forms of slavery.

So there are issues, FaceMan.

At least with a case like this you get to have twelve people that represent the community decide on the points in the law - and it's not unusual for a jury to decide that such things are no longer objectionable, as they once were. So we'll see.

A couple of people have hit the nail on the head - If they have broken the law, then are liable for punishment. Notwithstanding the merits of such a law, the regulations with respect to adult media in Australia are well known.

Personal opinion - the law is s***. But, I still have to follow it.

Asking what would normally be classified as a personal question for identity verification somehow just isn't as effective if nudie pics containing the answer are only a google image search away.

I've seen the pics, I can't tell what the tattoo is. I'm just interested, it's not ID verification. I put in the 'if you are not a QGL troll' as a disclaimer for when 20 posts from now someone says, "Man, I fooled you losers real good. I created the fake login. HAHAHA"

Any work could be considered slavery.
You dont have to be a porn actor to do drugs.

Yes there are shady types connected with Porn because of Drug Laws that are a Failure and encourage Criminal Groups.

Bloody hell, Ausgamers / QGL really rates on the Googles - doesn't seem to take a long time for a current affair to be posted on here and reach the people involved, and it seems to happen more frequently these days. Remember the guy in the thread about internet take-up?

I'm waiting for a collision between a bereaved person and a superboss death/pun thread, should be spectacular. Can only be a matter of time!

Did you guys do an SEO exercise?

Pornography has to be monitored (yes by officials of the government) to prevent the sick perverts that prey on children etc. I personally am all for censorship on some things. Acts of violence during sex (rape etc included) and child pornography are top of my list of s*** that needs to be stopped.

I'm sure every guy here wishes he could have been a porn star. I envy you Liandra Dahl. Go hard <-- no pun intended :)
