Hi guys, I purchased the G9x yesterday and I'm having difficulty getting used to it.. I currently use a G7 (basically a wireless G5).. The G7 seems to fit my hand better and because it's polished plastic, the grip is good (no slippage).. The grips that come with the G9x are too slippery and my fingers are slipping whilst trying to play... the fat arse of the G7 is very fat so when trying to look down quickly in particular is quite restrictive cause it hits the palm of your hand too much too soon as you try to move the mouse down...

just my initial thoughts.. Hope I get used to this thing somehow for the sake of $148 from umart :(

all the reviews I read were in favour of the G9 so i thought I was on to a winner.

How do you hold the mouse for curiosity's sake? I'm a G9'er also & love it, I've never heard of hands slipping off a mouse as a problem. It's a right hand mouse though & if your left handed that could be an issue i guess???

I hold it in a claw type fashion. I think that's what they call it. So nothing touches the mouse except for my fingertips.

I find a g5 too damn small for my likings. I used to hold the mouse like you (claw grip) but had since become acustomed to holding it in the palm of my hand after using an ms intellimouse v3 for so long.

It probably took me about 2 weeks or so to get used to my g5 in games (I'd been using an intellimouse for about 4+ years), it takes a while to train your muscle memory and make it forget your old mouse :(

Wtf, I can't even imagine how that works. Do you just push the mouse around with the tips of your fingers without actually picking it up or something?

I went from the MX wireless logitec to the G9 and other then having to load it up with weights I found it pretty easy to use. But I have a proper grip on it, my hand would be a cramped mess after an hour or so if I tried only controlling it by fingertips alone.

Pretty much yeah. I don't know about Martz, but if we do hold the mouse the same way, the wrist rests on the table and just your fingertips clutch onto the mouse like some kind of falcon with its talons trying to claw its prey.

It makes it easier to whip the mouse around really fast since all that moves are basically your fingers, you don't have to move your entire arm around.

I'm not placing my fingertips on top of it and pushing it around I'm actually grasping/holding it with my fingers. Not so much fingertips but the finger print parts of my fingers. So when I look up and down I'm bending my fingers to move mouse up and down. When looking left and right I turn my hand using wrist.

You don't have to imagine it - Google it. First pics. Makes sense, but not how I use the mouse personally.

I have a G7, was thinking of going to G9. One thing I can't stand on mice is the scroll wheel clicking left and right - I must click the middle mouse button (scroll) on a strange angle, because I always seem to activate that. Is there a way to turn it off on G9?

I do claw grip. Tends to allow way more control than grasping the mouse.

Check this beast out:

Just bind the left/right tilt to the same thing as middle click, problem solved.

Very interesting, didn't realize there were "techniques" when it came to moving a computer mouse. The G9 appears to be designed for "Flat finger" kung fu, which is the way i use it.

Look at the finger position.

I take it back - I use claw grip. I have a bony wrist (I'm a skinny bastard), so I have a wrist rest as well - which makes palm grip almost impossible I'd say.

Good idea Mantorok. I had a look in Setpoint. Is it possible to do it as a system-wide setting?

yeah see the claw grip how he was moving the mouse down into his palm, that's where the fat arse of the G9 gets in the way.. I couldn't imagine using the first 2 grips, you have to move your whole arm, how tiring and less accurate I reckon.. With claw grip, everything is in the wrist, minimal body movement, lots of control, very accurate. I just rest my arm on the table and the wrist does the rest of the work... only bad thing about the claw grip is that you have to pick up the mouse when you can't move wrist any further in a particular direction and you want to continue turning around for example, but I'm so used to it I don't even think about it and it's second nature.

I played a bit more with the G9 using the claw grip but due to the minimal surface area contact and the finish of the G9 grip, my fingers are literally slipping and I'm losing control.. when my fingers were slightly damp/moist from sweat or whateva, I had good control with no slippage using claw grip but not as comfortable as G5/G7.. G9 I would say is for people who use the first 2 grips in the vid...

Never thought about it till now

<- Claw Grip:

Something I've noticed (and changed mice since) is if you over extend on a movement and have to pick the mouse up (retrieval style), weight becomes an issue as the centre of gravity gets messed up and becomes a distraction.

I prefer a wireless mouse and went from a MX100 to the MX Revolution.
Am waiting to find out if work can finally stock some Razr Mice an pick up the new wireless adder with optional USB charge.

Flat fingers, claw grip, and I have a lot of hand hanging off the back of the mouse.

I can't believe

a) this thread was created
b) people care how you hold the mouse
c) SOMEONE ACTUALLY MADE A YOUTUBE VIDEO ABOUT IT!

Pretty sure a keyboard thread was around not long ago with everyone feigning interest in other peoples hand palcements...

why would you be surprised about this? Seems like natural progression really on a 'gaming' forum.
