We’ll serve one this up straight: a reliable source has tipped off Bloody Disgusting that Twentieth Century Fox is remaking Alien. Some days, we just wish the world would end to spare us further suffering. The tipster appears to be reliable, after previously leaking news that Robert Rodriguez would be producing a Predator reboot way back in January this year. According to him/her, Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are on board to produce. They have even tapped commercial/music video director Carl Rinsch to direct.

So long as they don't remake Aliens, one of my favourite films of my teenage years, alongside Predator of course... :(

Would you believe I've actually never seen Alien (or any of the other movies in the series)?

The same is also true of:
- Rocky
- Rambo
- Predator

Well, how does it affect your enjoyment of the original movie? Get over remakes. Kids of today just won't bother seeing a horror film made in the late 70's - it's just a different film world back then. Is it the fear that a remake might be better than the original? Why do people object so much?

Btw, Alien is one of my favorite films of all time.

Edit: I should add: I don't necessarily think it's a good idea either. I approach every Hollywood film with caution, regardless of the hype/director/actor etc etc. I do my best to enjoy a movie for what it's worth.

Im all for remakes, but having grown up in the era of it being cutting edge graphics and technology it will stick in our minds as being better than the remake, how ever - the younger generations will love it and we can share the story line with them and argue bitterly over a beer how much better one is over the other :)

Stop being negative nancies.

Why remake it? Its not like its in another language..

I don't see the point, other than Fox saves on buying a script.

Modern Cinema is truly dead.

noobs!!

It's a prequel not a REMAKE.

Thank god it's not a remake. Alien and Aliens is flawless. They wouldnt need to bother.

Frosty from Collider cornered producer Tony Scott at the "Taking of Pelham 123" junket and asked him point-blank what the deal is with this new "Alien" film. According to Scott, who will produce alongside brother Ridley, the film is actually a prequel to the 1979 film. Phew! Still could be tripe, but atleast there won't be a need to recast Ripley!

Remaking this movie is a god damn crime against humanity. Fox will whore themselves out to anyone. Watch them crowbar a love interest into the story and just f*** up the entire thing. I'm not happy

I just don't understand the point of throwing potentially over 100mill into a movie which will be close if not identical to something from the not too distant past, I mean it will be the same movie but worse! the f***'s the point?

prequel

Dear jesus that's even worse. If there's 1 thing that is even f***ing worse than remakes it's god damn prequels to epic movies, much less movies THAT DON'T f***ING NEED A PREQUEL. Just stop it

A story is a story.
No matter how it was writ, it will always be interpreted by the mind that reads it according to their perception(s).

I reckon Aliens is more boring than Alien. It's still a good movie but there's a lot of really boring scenes in Aliens, mainly all the ones involving Newt. It's the same with Terminator 2. Most scenes with Edward Furlong were crap and made the film drag.

But I don't think a remake is needed. I like the idea of the alien ship being all mysterious and s***.

zzzz, money grabbing f***ers. There's a reason it's a f***ing "classic", because it can't be reproduced.

Seriously what's next they gonna redo Scarface with better explosions?

Zactly. They just can't be content to make s***ty sequels (Alien3 and Resurrection) or any forgettable garbage involving a Predator cross over, but now they want to screw up the good Alien flicks as well?

Well at least they're getting back in Ridley Scott on it.
It's not like they let Michael Bay direct or something.

(Ridley Scott directed the original Alien)

i'm ambivalent. whether it's a remake or a prequel or whatever it's gotta be ahead of the pack with the quality of movies coming out lately. if only due to haveing ridley scott onboard (if that part fo the rumour is true). i highly doubt it'll impress me anywhere near the original... it'd need a time machine to make me younger again ;p

A retelling takes nothing away from the achievement or worthiness of the original. Remakes are also nothing new for Hollywood - how many Robin Hood films have been made? How many albums from modern artists include sampling or covers of 'classics'?

The evolution of stories through retelling is a fundamental part of the human condition, with deep roots in the oral traditions of storytellers in the ancient world. For example, the 'original' Illyiad and Odyssey simply don't exist; Homer's work was based on stories that had been told and retold for generations.

In short: stop being precious, whiney bitches!

Wow Robert Rodriguez is remaking Predator, doing 2 sequels to Sin City, and making a movie of The Jetsons.

Oh noes! Remakes! This will surely degrade the quality and enjoyment of the existing movies in the franchise!

Remember how they made Alien Resurrection, and despite it being s***, the earlier films were still enjoyable?

A prequel? Well I'm very interested then!

I am all for furthering the characters via their development etc, enter Batman Begins. Totally digged it.

Bring it on i say!
