how come when theres a new version of itunes i have to download a whole 80mb each time?
i don't worry about safari or mobile me so i untick these but it's always around 78-80mb still.
can't you just download the update?.....seems like i'm downloading the whole thing each time. and it always screws with any shortcuts i have on the desktop.

so apart from the usual anti mac/itunes responses (and for the record i am a PC man who just happens to like iTunes)

i just need to know if i'm doing something wrong.
cheers

Nope, does the exact same thing for me, including the f***ing up of the shortcuts part. It's super annoying.

It basically download the whole installer file again and installs over the top including drivers for iPhone/iPod's so thats why it's 70-80mb big.

Depends if he's set itunes to auto sync. Personally I've turned auto sync off, I'd rather be able to control when and what gets sync'd to and from my s***.

I'm relatively new to itunes so apart from the installer installing itself over and over every time there's an update, is there anything else I should know about the evil apple empire? Are they reading my thoughts?

ok well thanks at least i know it's not just me then
as for syncing i don't think so unless the default settings are to auto sync on his itunes so best check that first before plugging in

I thought iTunes is supposed to prompt you about chucking another library's music on.

There are 2 options on iTunes that can be changed.

One is on the iPod's summary page should say disable automatic syncing for this iPod or something among those lines

Second is through iTunes preferences under devices you will see an option to disable automatic syncing for all iPods/iPhones which will stop option one from happening

Also if the iPod is set for manually managing music (iPod summary page) that will stop music form other iTunes libraries form syncing to your iPod

Yes, I thought so too 3dee.

Itunes has, in the past, prompted me when it has wanted to replace a large percentage of an ipod's library. So I imagine it would be a similar story for an ipod synced with a library on a different computer.

Edit:
Under the "Devices" tab in Preferences, you can set the level at which Itunes will prompt you about replacing content. Options are at: "any", "more than 5%", "more than 25%" and "more than 50%".

Yes and no pending what setup options you have if you have music ticked for syncing music it will if it's a different library altogether.
