Term showed me this a couple days ago; it's this sweet looking skin for Xbox Media Centre. It's a bit Apple/flashy (coverflow is such a f***ing stupid way to navigate stuff, but it looks good) but it's pretty impressive. I just downloaded XMBC for Windows and this Aeon thing ( official site ) and tested it out and it's pretty neat; it does stuff like go through your music and videos and download cover art and all that junk. Worth a look if you're into XBMC. |

Tried it about six months ago and hated the file importer / file management tool, there didn't seem to be an easy way to add your own posters / covers to tv shows / movies that either didn't have any or had terrible ones. Apparently it's gotten better so I might give it another shot.

Love XBMC; its particularly good at managing TV shows series'.
Started using Aeon a few weeks ago its quite nice though unfinished still, there's a few things you can't do via the skin yet. There's also a neat little iPhonepod app you can get that gives you control ovcer XBMC via wireless which is nice too, as well as one to stream songs to the iPhone via 3G which is O too if you really wanna hear something that's not on your phone (dont have that one). To mess with covers etc bring up the context menu after the media is ported (defaults to 'c' i think) and choose umm I think its TV Show / Move Information from the pop up menu, from there you can browse the available pics for fan art or thumbs or use a local source. |

So far, the only real reason I've found to use XBMC on anything other than an xbox is it will play files in multipart rars. Everything else just seems so clunky and favouring appearance over actually working properly.

Silly noob question time: When you talk about using XBMC on xbox, is this just the first xbox or xbox 360 as well? I just connect to my PC from the 360's "live experience" dashboard and it sorts it into its standard media folders (Videos, Music, Photos ect). I'm guessing the XBMC is something totally different?

Looks nice. But I got so sick of all the problems using the different (free) media PC front ends that now I just use windows with a wireless KB/track ball. Nows its exactly like using my desktop.

XBMC is now on windows / linux / mac? not just xbox original.
I think it's more meant for a media PC being used on a tv, than your normal desktop / games pc. Hence the big easy to navigate buttons. |

I'd been haning out for a usable Aeon for quite some time, By the time they did all my s*** was packed ready to come to Austin. Finally my PCs etc showed up from back home ( they were on the slowboat ) and I managed to hook it all up. First thing I did was get Aeon running on my media-PC ( Asus Nova-p20 ).
It's fricken sweet. Combined with a Windows based scraper/database tool (media info plus), and my ubuntu server running wine+utorrent and automatically unrar'ing to my NAS it pretty much fills itself with awesome stuff to watch. I use an app EventGhost which reads IR from remotes to add extra commands/functions from the windows remote i have, so i can start/shutdown xbmc, windows media centre, etc from the desktop so I never have to use kb/mouse. last edited by stinky at 09:33:15 13/Jun/09 |

Yeh if you watch TV over the air you're not gonna want XBMC.

Tried XBMC last night. No TV!? If you use the linux version of xbmc, they're working on integrating it with MythTV. |

Aye, well I looked into it and you can get it to work with MediaPortal through scripts as well. But I don't honestly understand the point - wouldn't you just use MediaPortal instead then, and avoid the f***-around? I mean, XBMC is eye candy - but MediaPortal has skins anyway, so just make it look like XBMC. Someone has probably already done it for you if you look hard enough. Is it worth integrating with MythTV? What does XBMC do that MythTV doesn't? |
