So I'm in Japan and 1 week in my cybershot (yes it was a mistake to buy sony, lesson learnt there) kept telling me to re-insert the memory card. Did it countless times and it still kept saying it (no, it was never mishandled or dropped, just the usual throw in day bag after use etc). After a day or so I pretty much gave up on it and accepted there wasn't much I could do, at least until I got back to Aus.
But is there anything I can do? Not that familiar with data recovery with these things. It's a sandisk 4gb memory stick pro duo (basically a normal SD card but sony decided they want to make their own standard instead of using what every other camera on the market uses). A quick google search only made it more depressing. A few forums with people complaining about the same thing with sandisk pro stick duo cards, esp. with the 4gb variety. |

Where'd you buy the stick? It may be counterfeit.

Does a computer recognize it? If so you might be able to download a data recovery program and run it over the card to see if you have any love. I did it a few months back with an old card to grab some stuff I had deleted, worked ok. Can't remember the program I used, I just googled it and played with a few until I found one that worked.

A Sony camera that takes an SD card? Are you sure it's not a memory stick? |

I've used irecover to recover files that wouldn't appear to windows. It was recommended here, but it's slow because the free trial only does one folder at a time.

if you're handy with a soldering iron the solution is simple dude...
go grab a cheapie $5 usb memstick and crack that baby open. trial and error will get you there. strip down a peice of cheap coax cable if you need access to some fine copper wire.. silicone gel (cheap from hardware stores) sets pretty quickly so insulation shouldn't be an issue |

A Sony camera that takes an SD card? Are you sure it's not a memory stick? Yeah, I mean a Memory Stick PRO duo 4gb. I figured I would describe it as a SD card just because it's basically a SD card. |
