Steven Spielberg and Drew Barrymore are reported by Starpulse to be 'in talks' to revive the long-dead idea of a sequel to 1982 world-beating smash E.T.

Of all people, spielberg should know you NEVER mess with a classic film. If this is true, and I pray that it isn't, it's going to be very sad.

This movie needs lasers, space ships, the military trying to shoot advanced aliens with bullets and consequently getting f***ed up, oh and Mel Gibson.

The last 5yrs or so of film really is a creative desert and its getting worse and worse.

Horrible bland remakes and sequels that are relentlessly slopped onto multiplex screens from the Hollywood s*** bucket.

Movies so devoid of any originality or inspiration that I often couldnt be bothered even watching the beer coasters that get passed around at work.

Sometimes I weaken a la Indy4... but I'm always severely punished - dreams smashed, nostalgia raped.

I often wonder of late that it this period of cinematic sewerage has been brought about by the ubiquitous burning and d/ling of movies. The shrinking margins of film producers and distributers has resulted in one thing ... "Betting on a sure thing", "Only providing to an established target audience".

Spielberg just needed to set the record straight in the scene where the G-men turn up:
Spoiler:
E.T. shoots first.

He already made an ET 2, it goes just like the first one, but the rifles became walkie talkies.

Perfect premise to an underwater zombie movie, rise up and consume passing ships.

Also, there is nothing on Speilbergs IMDB page which covers about the next four years.
