It's late spring here (warmish, sunny etc), and today it dumped 20cm snow. Not happy jan. Because of this our staff party was canceled (it was outside).

Good until I have to go to work... then it's f***ing lame...

2nd day in a row riding in with my balls being cradled by a freezing pool of water D:

Stopping by the moto store on the way home today to buy me some waterproof boots and a rain suit.

QFT.

Plus it's windy rain which is worse.

I have to go to uni today and am going to get drenched. Plus I'm running out of clothes (haven't done any washing in a week because have been at uni working on assignments and my clothes shrink if they go in the dryer).

The rain is TERRIBLE.

It's supposed to ease up on Sunday (so 4 more days of it people).

Parents/family have lived in their home for 90+ years and have only seen it worse once in 1974. Water is coming up under their house like Oil. Ground is so wet the water table is lifting.

I wonder what would happen if the Dams were full ?

I think storage capacity of the dams is only something like 50% of holding capacity. So even if the dams were at '100%' they could temporarily hold a lot more so the downstream flooding isn't so bad.

Edit:
Wivenhoe... Storage capacity for water supply (full supply level) is 1,165,000 megalitres, with a further capacity of 1,450,000 megalitres above full supply level (flood storage), for the temporary storage of flood waters.

Somerset... Storage capacity for water supply is 380,000 megalitres, with a further storage of 524,000 megalitres above the full supply level for the temporary storage of flood waters.

Sometimes its hard as hell to see the lanes or reflective markers, mostly at night, when its pissing down. Driving through city the other night was hectic, even the cabbie in front of me had to swerve back into the lane a few times.

This morning there was a car just sitting on the road (Waterworks Rd Red Hill) blocking traffic - no driver, lol they'd f***ed off somewhere after an accident. Miserable drive in to work.

I disagree, i think its way harder during the day when everything is the same grey colour as the sky is, with all the water just reflecting the sky and the reflectors have no contrast.

Compared to driving in the rain at night when the reflectors are shiny and bright compared to the black around them

Whilst a lot are pretty average drivers, there are a proportion of cabbies who actually are really good drivers, both safe and confident in their handling of their vehicle.

Its driving through the city that is difficult because there's so many buildings and signage making the the road a mess of light and colours and from my personal experience the other night, it was very difficult to distinguish the lane markers from the reflections of the lights. The white lines on the road were even harder to see.

Cabbie nearly took me out this morning. I turned right down a side street and he's stopped on the corner of said side street. As I get along side him he decides that would be the best time to do a U-turn without looking. I'm beside him so can't stop in time, weave into the lane going the opposite way (no cars thankfully) and he stops a couple of cm away from t-boning me. As it happened I thought for sure we would make contact because the roads were too wet for me to get out of the way. Somehow just managed to get out of that one though.

Actually I almost had an incident in the car this morning.

I slowed down to make a right turn, and some a****** thought it would be great to overtake me on the wrong side of the road.. this means he was on my right as I was turning right.
I really wish I'd smashed him so we could talk about his choices in life.

Fair enough I can totally understand the reflections on the road making it impossible to tell a lane marker to a reflection of the overhead bombardment of light. I was actually thinking from more the highway/suburbia perspective when i pitched in my thoughts :)

My office is right next to Enoggera Creek at Bowen Hills...had to evacuate. Ran out to the car and Lutwyche Rd was at a standstill as far as the eye could see because Bowen Bridge was underwater, so I merged over to the middle and did a U-turn and headed home northwards. From there traffic was almost non-existent, because no one could get out of the city!

In summary, flooding allowed me to go home early, and drive home way quicker than usual. Yay flooding!

Walked to uni at like 3 today and there was a bit of a river happening through the forest.

On my way back, the water was about an inch from the top of the concrete cylinder things but it was too dark to get a decent pic.

Don't misinterpret the point of my previous post Jake. I'm fully supportive of any and all industrial action taken by teachers, they deserve better pay for what they have to put up with. Believe me, I know...in a way. I'd just be nice if some teachers actually looked like teachers, even if it's only on an online forum that they don't.

Going for a triple post.

I walked on the other path (to the left, when facing the buildings, of that one) at about 3:20pm and the water was probably about 1m from cresting over the path. If the rain hadn't stopped it at that time, it was starting up again on my way back about 30 minutes later. I also tried to take a picture, but it was too dark.

Took about an hour to travel down Moggill Rd at around 5pm. A friend of mine hopped out of my car, walked to HJ and finished up before my car even approached it. Could probably have walked the rest of the trip home quicker.

Also found about 8 leaks in the house. Had to evacuate my room .. real-estate agents don't seem to take the leaks seriously. Might have to make a breach-of-contract warning to get them to act, bastards.

Pretty crazy up there. Just looked at trog's Google Map (link fail, btw) - here it is again Google Map of dramas in QLD

Reminds me of when I was in Cairns, driving up to the Daintree in a hired Camry sedan, missus and I decided that we could cross a flooded road. Turns out, cars float if the door seals are good. Hahahaha. Turned into a boat JUST as our wheels touched the other side. So so so lucky not to have to explain that one to Europcar!

I have family in Lismore, bit out of town though.

That joint is flood central.

240,000,000,000 litres went into the dams in the last 48 hours :/ (that should be 240billion, dunno if I got the maths right)

Combined dam levels over past 24 hours increased by +9.61% to 72.30%: Wivenhoe 55.67%, Somerset 106.37% and North Pine Dam 102.25%. Strong inflows are continuing into all three dams.

I live in Kallangur, right next to Northlakes. We got rain not a great deal though. So unless your house is in a ditch you should be right.

Kallangur and North Lakes are actually fairly high up. I mean from my house i can stand on my front lawn and see direct line of sight to all the TV Towers at Mt Coot-tha.

ohhh that sucks. I admit I had my heart in my mouth when I was getting bused back to my train station (tracks were under water) since the river flowing adjacent had flooded. I got lucky. I wonder how many cars Eagers lost this time around.

Couldn't possibly be as high as Mr Hardware's house though. He can see the TV towers! In a direct line! He doesn't have to look up or nuthin'!

Meanwhile our dams have hit 27%. Can we have some of that rain, please? The rate we're going you guys are going to be bottling it and we're going to be paying $5/L for water.

that eletrical box, I think went kabalmo, I got heads up energex was killing power at like 2.30pm didn't happen till 3.00pm after a the lights dimmed (like a brown out) than a loud sizzling sound could be heard. on thursday about 5 energex trucks where on site fixing it. it was pretty epic when the water was rushing into the ground floor from the breakfast creek.
