Could the next Terminator film abandon the post-apocalyptic battle arena for something closer to our world? McG thinks so.

The first film in the “new” Terminator story is about to hit cinemas, and director McG has long promised more than one if it’s successful. Now he’s starting to talk about what shape that might take, at least in the second movie of his trilogy.

"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," he tells Film Journal.

"John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity.”

Interesting, though didn’t they solve that issue in T3?

Sounds fun, though: “So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fu*****g awesome.”

And he also gives a hint towards something he’s chatted about in the past – the presence of Robert Patrick. “I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves.

I do not know about this.

Just leave the poor horse alone... it's been beaten enough and it's been dead ever since T3 came out. We never needed a 4th movie much less 3 new ones. You're never going to match the epicness of T2. Stop trying. It's like trying to make an album that sells better than thriller.

But this upcoming film hardly seems like the same kind of movie as Terminator 2. The previous films have been about stopping the war before it happens, this is about fighting a war that seems hopeless. There's no harm in trying, it's not like it will somehow make the first 2 films less enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to the new one, but his idea for a 5th one sounds pretty lame.

Yeah another back to the future terminator seems incredibly uninteresting.

Bulls***. There's no way McG is gonna do something that stupid. Also, how that f*** is John gonna get all the world leaders to help him when he has no proof.

The whole franchise would just keep looping over and over if this happened.

I think the fourth film is warranted because it is glimpsed at in the previous installments. I've always wanted to see the battle in the present tense. And forget sequels, bring back the series!

Yeah. Let's have another Arnie walking around doing the same thing over. Boring!

This will be better then 2 and 3 combined.

More like T2. The liquid metal man was nowhere near living flesh so why he was naked I don't really know.

As for that ability, if you can now bring weapons through the terminators would just travel back to like 1800 and nuke the entire planet and game over man, game over. That's a stupid idea being able to bring guns & s*** through.

Just watched T2 and remembered this comment, Robert Patrick was not the first cop, the T1000 already looked like him when he came from the future. ;D

After seeing Salvation I can't wait for the next one to be honest, I'm still waiting to see a much bigger and better CG depiction of the awesome laser wars of 2029 they did at the start of T2!

whoops - maybe the time travel thing is limited in terms of how far they can go back and to what points in time. Maybe if they bring stuff with them it f***s up the time machine or something.

Now that you've actually seen Salvation are you willing to accept how wrong that is?

It was still a good movie imo.

It was never going to be an easy task to carry on the franchise the way they did. They pulled it off and the movie was good.

The story makes sense and the characters are awesomne.

dont forget, the director makes the movie good, why was 1 & 2 so great, because of James Cammron, Mgee Sucks nutts, ps just saw something bout him with terminator 5 in 2011. James not mcgee http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000116/

It would build itself. Duh.

  • Travel back to 1800, take 1000000000000 terminators with you since you can now bring more than one person and take back all the stuff you'd need to build skynet.

  • Nuke the planet (from orbit if it makes you feel better)

  • Terminators build skynet

  • Humans don't know what the f***.

It wouldn't be itself - like the 19th century humans it would cease to exist.

This is why Skynet doesn't do this instead of chasing Connor all the time, its a self-aware entity that wants to survive with everything pretty much the same, just without that pesky resistance smashing it.
