hey guys
just recently(i think) i have been experiencing pretty horrific video lag when watching my beloved lost (or any videos for that matter) the avi / whatever starts fine, then after a random amount of time (usually 1-3 minutes) the video framerate goes to asshat and tears like a motherf***er, and the audio gets lagged behind the video. i have done the following to try eliminate the problem, to no avail yet -full spybot search -ensure i have sufficient disk space -changed video card drivers -set all clock frequencies to default -defragged -tried diff video player -changed sound card drivers (suspected s*** cause audio was stuffing up) any ideas? this is annoying the living f*** out of me it doesnt SEEM to be general computer lag as a whole. do you guys know any diagnostic programs i can run then show you the data and you can check ti out any help hugely massively appreciated, i can't fix this =/ edit my setup is e8200 p5k-se 8800gt it SORT of seems like its my hdd, is that possible? |

what are you playing your vids in?
try vlc petey when it does happen, jump into task manager and see what your cpu usage is: obviously if a core is maxing out its some nasty spyware; if your cpus are happy, it could a be a hdd dying got SMART turned on with your hardrive (its in the BIOS) last edited by Spook at 16:47:11 16/Apr/09 |

just doing some more reading now
i may have a conflict with this file audiodg.exe i used to have an sblive but took it out and im now using the onboard sound, apparently this audiodg file (which i have in my task manager) can be a pain in the ass - not sure really still reading. Also. with my pc at idle on the desktop my cpu usage is at 56% . is that normal? i think that may be a factor to this problem |

just doing some more reading now Try disabling onboard audio via BIOS (so you have no audio) and see if video plays correctly. |

My system idle process is always above say 95 and then a couple of random programs (firefox, etc) jump around a bit and have like 2-3 each
im gonna check smart is on, and im gonna disable the drivers and make sure there is no creative bulls*** on my PC. i think it has something to do with this audiodg.exe apparently it leaks memory or causes some bs to happen! |

i just had a vid playing and it was running fine
the INSTANT it goes to s***, my cpu usage jumps up from <10% to 55% or w/e then i can close the video, and it still stays around 55% and my whole system is noticably slower then a couple of minutes later it will just randomly drop back to normal cpu usage. does this sound like a virus? |

disabled onboard sound in bios, checked smart is on put my old sblive back in still doing exact same thing people are saying to go into my sound options and disable all enhancements, but the f***ing option isn't even there, it must have been removed with SP1 this is a f***ing joke. why has it just started happening randomly? maybe my hdd is indeed dying is there a a way to check this? also whats the best free virus scanner, gonna do a full scan |

i think now its just more to do with the fact my cpu usage jumps to 50% when im doing something and then sits there for a couple of minutes, then goes back to normal
that sounds more like a virus then something dying, would you people agree? |

i may have a conflict with this file audiodg.exe I had this same problem a while ago, running the first beta of Windows 7. Audiodg.exe would start smashing my CPU. I managed to fix it by uninstalling my audio drivers in safe-mode, then re-installing in safe-mode, and rebooting. It stopped happening when I got a later build though. Are you running Windows 7? If not, just try it anyway, it worked for me. |

I had something that sounded the same a while back. I removed all codecs, got some freeware program to remove the ones that didn't have uninstallers, rebooted then installed CCCP, VLC and some HD codecs and all was sweet again. I think one of my codecs just corrupted.

Is the onboard sound soundmax or realtek?
There was a version of soundmax drivers that caused high cpu usage. RUSTA |

Sound like codecs to me. Did you download he latest KL codec pack?
Also when you reformatted, did you re-download all the exe's you need to install? If you had a virus before the reformat, any exe's you ran will most likely be infected. Try reformatting and re-downloading EVERY driver/program .exe you need. I doubt it's your hard drive. If your hard drive is that bad that it can't play a video smoothly, I doubt an OS would boot off it. If you get stuttering and issues during gaming too, it could be PSU or graphics card (either dodgy parts or overheating). I had a similar problem to yours back in the day because my graphics card cooler was literally blocked with dust. Hope that helps P.S. Even though I'm helping you, you're still a f***** :P |

Just try replacing one part at a time if you have a mates comp or something. Also HDD's are cheap so just buy one anyway.

If you're running vista don't leave explorer open while you're watching videos. I've found my laptop has explorer do something with the video files in the background like it's trying to read it to get meta data or some s***, the instant I close explorer (windows explorer I used to find the video, not the explorer process) the jittering goes away.
Also stop using the built in task manager, it's utterly useless and a load of f***ing s***. Install this s*** and see exactly which process is taking up all your CPU, and up top in the little graphy looking bit mouse over it to see which applications are reading from your hard drive. You can also tell it to replace task manager so when you hit ctrl alt delete it comes up instead. At idle my CPU is about 1-2% usage I'd say (can't check atm I'm in ubuntu). 3.0ghz core 2 duo. |

Oh yeah, Whoop's post reminded me of something. I had a problem once where videos would eat up my processor time if I had an explorer window open with videos in thumbnail view. Turned out it had something to do with explorer trying to dig up or draw the thumbnails while the system was playing the video. I think a Codec reinstall fixed it.
