OK guys, I just set up dual monitors for my PC (running Vista) and I was under the impression that there are programs out there that let you control how programs appear and on which monitor. Are there programs like this and if so does anyone have experience/anecdotes or recommendations? Thanks!

(Essentially the main problem is I'd like games to appear on the secondary monitor, but anything full screen forces itself to the primary display and obviously when it's full screen you can't just move it to the other monitor.)

yea Ultramon is the way to go.

You can also have a taskbar for your second monitor too.

(and alternative backgrounds if your into that sorta thing)

This is a stupid question: Can you use dual monitors but have them at different resolutions?

Ultramon is really good, though I don't bother using any dual-monitor apps anymore.

Yeah, +1 Ultramon

Trying to remember if I've used it after going over to Vista and the GX2 as doesn't do multi out when in multi GPU mode.

Yeah, I remember Enemy Territory: Quake Wars had s*** fps when using dual monitors. I think that's when I shelved the second monitor, getting sick of turning it on and off.

Ultramon is funky, but it still doesn't let me move fullscreened apps (or more specifically, source games, cause they don't have a right click menu for their box on the taskbar). :<
Any other ideas?

Kos - yes it does.

Define a shortcut key combination that'll move an app from one monitor to the other...

I did that, in Left 4 Dead when I press the key combination it tries to move to the other monitor, and all the input (like in the menus with the mouse and stuff) is mapped to the other screen, but the rendering still happens on the primary display... any ideas?

If its the one I tried then the free version didn't seem to work well with Vista at all.

UltaMon or whatever its called has a beta that seems to work OK.

Billy,

Have you tried running it in windowed mode? I am pretty sure you can.

Yeah I've sort of collected it all over the last 6 or 7 years so it hasn't hurt the wallet too much really, and the TV is going anyway, now that I have two monitors (and a digital tuner card :D).

Aww Valve always seem to come up with a new way to frustrate me!

Hey that chair rocks! I had a newer "better" one for a couple of years and it lost its sponginess so much it eventually felt like I was sitting on a plank of wood, this chair's been great for like 15 years or something, probably has asbestos in it or something actually...

My receiver's a Pioneer but I'm sure they're all pretty much the same, this one is indeed awesome and does everything I could ever want and more.
