Given the spate of discussion about all things tower defense lately, this comes at an opportune time - the release of Defense Grid: The Awakening, a fully 3d TowerD game.
Defense Grid: The Awakening is a unique spin on tower defense gameplay that will appeal to players of all skill levels. A horde of enemies is invading, and it's up to the player to stop them by strategically building fortification towers around their base. Beautiful environments, spectacular effects, and a dynamic, engaging soundtrack bring the world to life. The controls are intuitive and the gameplay is deep — the special attacks and properties of each tower work together to provide many ways to succeed.
The PC demo has just been released, and you can download it locally from AusGamers, and you can check out screenshots and video on our game page. If you like it you can buy it on Steam.

Pretty cool i guess, but isn't the appeal with these games is that you can play them at work?

I played the demo on steam. Was OK, but the browser ones are so much fun and they are free, such that I wouldn't pay for a TD game.

Everyone is having some fun from free TD games then someone has to come along and try to make some money from it. At $19.99, good to luck to him!

I just tried it briefly but its pretty much unplayably slow on my lamo work PC so I can't get a feel for it. Looks lush though.

I'll check it out once I've given up on the three Vector TD games.

I thought one of the cool things about TD games was the accessibility of it, just fire up your browser, hit the link and BAM! instant fun.

I've played this game all the way through. It's very good, and very addictive. Some levels are quite hard, and you need to create a sort of maze for the enemies to walk through in order to make them spend maximum time in range of your towers. There are also airborne enemies which is something 2D TD doesn't really have.

Yeah the demo was fun. But it is pretty much a 3d version of the games in the other threads.
Also the maze factor was cool. Dunno if they have that in the web based games.

Bought it.

The demo is slightly different to the game.

Now if only someone would produce DOTA as a standalone game!

Gas Powered Games' upcoming "Demigod" is meant to be like DotA.
