OK, so I was away for a few months and stopped listening to the Js. I was streaming it whenever I could, but not all-day-every-day like I do in the office and driving and stuff.

Now I'm back and every second song is some f***ing lame remix mashup bulls***. Can someone explain what happened? It's like listening to Nova or some other bulls*** station that plays half-assed popdance drivel.

And I basically have to turn it off when Dools and Linda come on. It's actually worse than listening to the usual prattle from commercial DJs.

Yeh I know Linda is off, that's probably good news. I sort of reflexively hit alt-f4 on winamp when their time is scheduled so I didn't realise they were off - that's good news. Still I'm so sick of hearing these f***ing remixes that I can barely stand to have it on any more.

I got the s***s with Triple J and Nova a while back and never really liked Triple-M.
With Hamish and Andy on B105 I am listening to that a lot, but unfortunatly it also means that when I tune in the morning I get the B105 breakfast show.

When I was a kid the b105 breakfast show was always a good laugh, had great games like Beat the bomb, characters such as Agro, Lord Mayor Jim... basically anytime you tuned in it was a bit of fun.

Now every time I listen to b105 breakfast the first thing I hear when I tune in is the sad song "light will guide you home... and I will try to fix you...." and then Camilla saying "oh that's so sad, that's really sad, I'm so sorry" every single time I turn it on! No s***! All they talk about is diseases and breakups and depressing s*** and play depressing music, and you wonder why all the kids are wearing black.

They do throw in repeats of Stav's crap gotcha calls and prank calls from other radio stations. But that is just one thing. They don't do anything else slightly funny at all.

Soon spook will be tuning in to 4BC.

But yeah, I don't listen to JJJ much at all anymore either, I used to listen to it heaps back in the day.

man, i was there for the glory days:

maynard, mikey and helen (before mikey was totally s***), angela caterns, ian rogerson, and then wil and adam, early rosey, mikey tunn

music they played was actually fresh and new and not played til death

they played a variety of styles, yes i didnt like all the rock pigery, but at least there was variety

the j's use to play decent beats all the time, even before mixup

but over the years, they played the same tracks more and more often, less decent beats and more guitar noise, and the presenters waffled more and said less

the lowest point being the jay and doctor, god how the f*** did those losers ever get on the radio

i used to mock comercial radio listeners, but ive since changed my tune, yes they repeat music ad nauseum, but at least they've got something intereting/funny to say inbetween breaks (like nova in the mornings, andy and hamish in the evenings)

i just put on my own musak when tunes come on

Too much hip hop too...
I stopped listening to the radio (all of it) a few months ago.. Only tune in now when ive overlistened the CDs in my car (until i remember to change them over).

Any significant time spent away from the js means effort is required to get back in to them.

But with News Radio + your mp3 collection why would you bother?

I just checkout the Promo only radio releases each month to get my fill of new music (alternative club, underground club, alternative rock radio) http://promoonly.com

Stuff listening to the banal filler and all those adverts on the commercial stations

Yeah, I just got back from being away from the radio for a while too, and actually checked when I got home that my station was still tuned in to Triple J, cos I thought it was Nova or something...

Also, who are those two dudes who are on in the middle of the day? I've had the misfortune of catching parts of their broadcast the last couple of days, and they are so unfunny it's cringe-worthy...

Only thing I can't stand on triplej is f***ing Hack. Their idea of a *current affair* is a joke.

Jay and The Doctor I loved. Dunno how you can't love them. They came on at a time when triplej was getting more and more censored and did the Tsunami Song and stuff like that. They always entertained me, seemed like really cool raw radio by some DJs you could be mates with.

I rate Doolz, and Linda was good value but won't really miss her. Sam Simmonds is a bit of a knob, Dave Jory is funny. There's some good peeps hanging around there I reckon.

Marieke I'm not a big fan of, but Robby is alright.

Ultimately I'm still waiting for a time when I can hook my mobs up to my aux-in and stream a German radio station.

I go back to JJJ every now and then to see if it has improved. I last usually about 5 mins then put my ipod back on.

Their idea of new alternative music is pretty gay these days.

The evolution of radio listening;

MMM -> B105 -> JJJ -> Radio National.

Trog - next stop for you is talk back radio!

hmmm, i went

4ccr fm (community radio in cairns) -> JJJ <--> zzz -> wild fm -> nova <--> b105 (only for hamish and andy)

man i miss wildfm, it was awesome:

even when they'd have the dj 2000 on on graves and you'd regularly hear the same song 3 or 4 times in a 6 hour period

Mashups are getting really old really quickly - the feature album this week is a mashups album, which is why it's getting spammed.

JJJ peaked in '97-98

now its run by communists, hosted by morons and the only music they play that's worth listening to is played on nova anyway.

97.3 is the best anyway, because they play 1 hour of nothing but 80s every day.

Totally agree, hence I never listen to it anymore.

And J and the Doctor were the nail in the coffin for me for their breakfast show. They were s***. Weren't they so s*** they got in that chick to try and liven it up?

Especially more s*** that they were paying out Gorillaz in the hottest 100 one year, because they were smashed by them in the vote count.

'Oh they aren't are real band. Blah blah cry cry'

I'm sick of all the radio stations, they all play s***. The same s*** every damn day. I don't mean they all play the same songs I mean they repeat their own respective playlists every day. MMM is about the worst for it.

They are all crap. Triple M plays the best music though cause I love all the old bogan music. Dire straits, acdc, kiss, chisel, yourmum etc.

I quite enjoy acquiring A State Of Trance with Buuren Van Armin mp3 and pretending its the radio in brisbane.

The Gold Coast has Radio Metro which is fairly awesome.

JJJ just created their own 'mainstream'. They no longer even bear the tiniest resemblence to an independant radio station unless you're listening to ShortFastLoud or some other specialty, late night program on there (and even then, they play a lot of 'mainstream' on those types of shows).

Anyone that declares that they listen to JJJ to distance themselves from the 'mainstream' radio found on B105 / MMM / Nova is f***ing kidding themselves.

JJJ listeners = hipster f*****s. :colbert:

haha.. a mate of mine just put me onto 4BC. I much prefer it to the Nova blasting thru the speakers here in the office.

*sigh* I really miss smashing out my fav State of Trance sets at the old job though

yar good thread. I've been feeling that way too about the J's.

I mean I like a bit of hip-hop and remix (mashup) every know and then but for farks sake its all they seem to play nowerdays.

Although at least they dont play the same songs over and over again like on MMM and Nova.

Honestly, some days I've come close to smashing the f*** out of the radio at work.

I use 4ZZZ as a last resort.

I agree with old man Spook. I loved JJJ when they were not so badly censored and play whatever the hell songs they want, like the uncensored version of closer by NIN. Those were the days. And yeah the last time I tuned into radio was about 8-9 years ago. Never regretted it.

Only the old-school JJJ'ers would remember when JJJ got in the s*** for playing 'f*** The Police' by NWA.

Even Hinchy got on board and declared their funding should be cut or scrapped all together for supporting such a track.

JJJ went off air for a day or so and played NWA's 'Express Yourself' on loop.

Good times.
