So there I am minding my own business Sunday morning at 7am when all of a sudden I get a knock at the door.

I look at my phone, I decide this person is crazy and go back to sleep
Then I hear the knock again, so I investigate

It's a forensics police officer, telling me my car was broken into - awesome way to wake up on a Sunday
So I head down stairs to check out the damage and sure enough, some wanker has smashed the window of my brand new (barely a month old) hilux

The insurance quote is something like $5000 because they have to strip the door and repaint it, replace the glass/tint/paint protection, replace the interior panels that were scratched by glass, replace the front passenger seat and seat covers because they're full of glass shards etc

put the call into my insurance company and they were alright about it, said they'd send someone to replace the window immediately
that failed, epically - they didn't have the glass for it so they said wait till Monday or drive to Woolongong?
2hrs for glass with no window on the highway and a cabin full of glass shards - no thanks

all in all the pricks broke into 16 cars in the complex, so I didn't feel too bad because there were a lot of people worse off than my damage/loss
I had nothing in the car for the thieves to take, I have to pay a $400 excess

Anyway, this morning I drop my car off at the assessment center and I had just finished reverse parking into the bay of their shed when all of a sudden I hear another smash and some glass explodes behind me, just as I had opened my door to get out

I'm thinking great, wtf have I hit?
I open the door more and step outside, the window behind me on the wall of this shed had a dirty big hole in it and I'm thinking s***, kids throwing rocks
So I'm looking for damage on the car when the guy comes running over to see what I'd done (probably thinking 'whats this idiot hit now')

he points at the ground and says 'look down', this is what I saw

oh right, the lesson hear is leave your car unlocked if you have a 'secure' car park (they are basically shopping centers for junkies)
my neighbours car was rifled through but because his doors were unlocked, they were nice enough not to break his windows

I went to Byron for a wedding - it was awesome.

Good thread though. That sucks teq, but pretty sure you'll laugh your arse off about the bird in a few weeks.

heh yeah I'm sure I will, I emailed the photos to my family and my mums first reaction was gold "Did you take it to the vet?"

I had to laugh, there's a fair bit of blood there considering that thing is a flying rat
it was way dead within seconds of crash landing

I would like a similar end for the junkies that smashed my window

Clearly that bird is the one that stole your stuff in the first place, he was just coming back to kill you and get rid of the evidence. However he didn't count on that shiny clean pane glass window disrupting his evil plans. You should watch your back from here on out man, they works in pairs. Always in pairs.

Ive always though that the more you try to lock things up, the more the theives will have to break, then be pissed of cause it was so hard to break into your house/car and break it more.

see my second post, but yeah I didn't think it was unreasonable to lock my car when I get out of it

Isn't it actually the law that you have to lock it up when you're not in it? I'm probably out of my tree but I'm sure someone told me they were making it some kind of silly finable offence.

Oh yeah of course you still lock it up, cause you just have to, dont some insurance companies not pay if the car was unlocked or something?
